The waterpark is great for people who like mild thrills, except for the Howlin Tornado. Best for children 6-14. My favorite thing is the Flow Rider. It is a body board simulator that can shoot you up a hill if you wipe out.

When you get tired of the water the arcade, magiquest, cub club, gr8 space. Magiquest is scavenger hunt game played throughout the lodge. Cub club is an activities center for kids 8 and younger. gr8 space is a game room for teenagers with gaming systems like the Wii and Xbox 360. There is also a race zone where you can build a remote control car, but I didn't like it because they are hard to steer and hard to control.

If you get there before check in they will let you use the waterpark while you wait for your room. You can use the waterpark the whole day you checkout, so the price is really for 2 days at the waterpark and a hotel room. Great Wolf Lodge is not a place to stay, if you are planning on doing alot of sightseeing, better to stay somewhere else and check in the lodge on your last day in Willamsburg.

I have been there a dozen times starting when i was 9.

Room Tip: Check out there website for great deals, especially mid week

All of the negative reviews must have been isolated incidents! From check in, my family had a great experience. Room was ready at 4:15P. All of the staff, the lifeguards ,front desk and servers, were courteous and seemed to make extra effort to ensure a pleasurable stay. Breakfast was excellent for $40 a day all you can eat. We chose to venture out for our other meals. Whatever meals you choose at Great Wolf be sure to take advantage of the discounted meal vouchers that are offered before you arrive. I chose the breakfast buffet for two days, grand total with vouchers $80. On our Last morning I decided to Pay cash and total for the four of us, (two teenagers "14&15") was $81!!!! Room was clean, more importantly the bathroom was clean and I'm particular about hotel bathrooms. We brought cleaning supplies just in case. Housekeeping cleaned on time same time both days. Beware!!!!!! The waterpark was crowded Friday and Saturday.

For our second trip to GWL, we took our kids and friends for a birthday weekend. They had an awesome time. The Kid Cabin was good but would be better with 2 sets of bunk beds since we had 4 kids. It was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We found the room ready as early as 2 but were not told that until 4. You can't bring food or drink into the waterpark, so plan to spend $2.50+ for each med drink and $8 for a kids meal when you don't have access to your room. We were there in July with 100 degree temps and it felt cooler outside at the pool than inside the park. The tube rides that travel outside were like pizza ovens by midday. The lifeguards are plentiful and the most attentive I have ever seen. The hotel is great just know that your room rate is only the tip of the expense iceberg and you will be prepared for a fun time!

Spent Friday and Saturday nights, paying almost $400 per night. This included the room and water park admission. Room had a chemical odor and an after market dehumidifier. So humid I emptied the full water tank 3 times in 36 hours. Also, beds were miserably uncomfortable. Water park was fun but water could have been clearer. Food was horribly expensive i.e. $5 for a slushy. There were ads everywhere for add on services. Really, everywhere, on mirrors, random wall hangings etc. Just not quite what I expected. For the money, next time we'll go someplace else. Internet was horrible.

Room Tip: Book early

Giving it a very good rating because the staff was very friendly and service oriented & the waterpark was wonderful. This resort does not list there prices online for a reason. Anywhere they can make a dime they are taking full advantage. Everything in the resort can be charged to your room, well of course so your not concious of what your spending. Really nice shopping center right down the street save money by getting your own snacks and drinks. Lots of activities for the kids but they all come with a price not included in room rate. Wifi service was difficult in room and business center had dial-up connection. Pay per view movies 6-12 dollars and video game console is 8 dollars an hr. Watch what your kids are up to or you could have a huge bill at check out.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closest to front of hotel if you have trouble walking

I took my two children and their friends to the GWL for my son's 13th birthday. This is was our fifth trip to the GWL and it was as good as the first four. I think we had such a good experience because we checked in on a Monday which is one of the quietest days of the week. This is specifically why we went on a Monday and not on the weekend. Check in was a breeze. We arrived a little before one and our room was ready so we got to check in early. I ordered the Birthday Party Package for my son and he loved it and it was in our room waiting for us along with a birthday banner on the door of our room. The room was clean and large enough for the six of us. We reserved a Grizzly Bear Suite which had plenty of room. It was clean but I can say it beginning to show it's age after, what being open for somewhere around seven years? It was still far from being run down. I noticed the bedspreads were different from the last time we visited so it had been updated somewhat.

The kids loved the waterpark and went in at one on the first day and did not leave until it closed at nine. They played in the arcade and the two girls played magiquest. All of the extra amusements cost extra, but we went in knowing this so we were not surprised. Like any other vacation if you go in knowing what things cost you will not be surprised or disappointed.

Breakfast was your typical buffet, nothing too exciting, but our waitress was very nice and helpful. The other food at the lodge was typical of what you find other places, but prices at the snack bar were not too high. I spent the same amount at Burger King on the way home as I did at the snack bar for lunch for us,so no complaints there.

Knowing the lodge tries to fill vacant rooms during the week, I booked one night and had everyone pack for two. Just as I had hoped, the staff slipped a card under our door offering a second night stay at less than half of what I paid for the first night (and the first had been on sale already) and the kids wanted to stay so we stayed a second night.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Again, this may be because it wasn't as crowded. When I had trouble opening the room's safe the front desk sent someone up to fix it right way eventhough is was almost ten o'clock at night.

All in all, we had a great time and will go back.

Sadly this GWL is on it's way down. We stayed here two years ago for July 4th and had a great time, the staff was great, the waterpark fun and well-maintained, the room nice. This time it was terrible from check-in (people cutting in line, which was allowed by the staff; took 5.5 hours from check-in at 1130 until our room was ready, even though they claimed ours would be ready quickly) to check-out (not crediting our bill because of all the complaints we made about check-in and the other bad services.) In between, the private lessons on the wave rider machine were terrible this time, the instructors were too involved talking to one another instead of teaching the kids how to board surf, they completely ignored us until the kids decided they weren't having any fun and we left early. Of the two big rides, one was completely broken and the other had only ONE raft on it, it seriously took 30 minutes of waiting to get one ride on it, even though the line was short. After numerous complaints from guests (and even a few from the lifeguards running the ride) it still took them 3 more hours to get any more rafts blown up and on the ride. It was ridiculous!
We had a great time two years ago but this time the overall experience was terrible and a complete waste of A LOT of money. Our waiter at breakfast was nice and efficient, but the food was bad this time. Much of the staff were friendly and helpful (except the wave rider instructors, who were getting paid extra!) but all of the niceties don't make up for the late room, bad food and bad rides. I don't think we'll waste our money here again.

Room Tip: Don't want trampling kids above you, loft suites are all on the top floor. They will offer you a...
