“Great place for families”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

We stayed here while visiting Williamsburg for a long weekend. The two bedroom unit was perfect - very new, modern and clean. Our unit was spacious with upscale furniture and very nice kitchen. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a great size, and the living room had a pull out sleeper sofa. We had two families with 3 kids under 10, and we had plenty of space. Our kids absolutely loved the pools - an indoor pool and fun outdoor pool with slides, mini lazy river and lap pool area. The pools are open late into the evening which was great for us after a 7 hour drive, arriving at 8pm! The only downside is that the outdoor pool can be kind of dark. I'm sure in peak summer season it's not a problem because it's light out pretty late. However we visited toward the end of august and it got dark by 9pm. The location was convenient - shops, restaurants and activities nearby, and only a short drive to Bush Gardens and the Waterpark. The facility still has some construction going on, but we were not impacted at all by it.
We plan to return to WIlliamsburg each summer and would definitely stay here again!

My family really enjoyed this resort. We were there with 21 family members and it proved to be a perfect place. The two bedroom suites are roomy and comfortable. It contained 3 flat screen TV's, the master suite was great with a large open shower area and vanity. The suite contained a washer dryer, kitchen area, and dining table. The rooms are great for entertaining others as we routinely had 10 - 15 people in our suite just hanging out. The kids really enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools as they had a slide and basketball hoops. Their is an arcade area that includes Ping Pong and they have internet access at no charge. The location is centrally located to all the surrounding activities such as Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, etc... You are also less than a mile from a grocery store, bowling alley and Premium Outlets.
There are definitely some very minor details that you can have issue with, but the good far outweighs the bad. They include:
1. The gym was weak with only a couple of cardio machines and no free weights.
2. The outdoor pool was cold. It was routinely kept at approximately 78 degrees.
3. There is a lot of construction in the development, but it was not loud or disturbing.
4. There is really no views as you are surrounded by a swampy area.
5. The hallways that connect the suites are not air conditioned

I would definitely recommend this resort to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a washer dryer in it as opposed to in the hallway.

Just spent a week at the Colonies at Williamsburg with my wife and two children (4 and 1 yrs old). We had a two bedroom unit and the room was fantastic...among the most well-appointed we have ever stayed in. The hotel pool is a kid's dreamland and very safe for young children such as mine. Property is conveniently located to dining, outlet mall up the road and within 15 minutes of all major Williamsburg attracations.

Took the rating down by one point due to a few issues:

1. Parking is scarce. There was no one else occupying our building (4 2BR units per building), yet we struggled to find parking near our unit. Can't imagine how much more difficult it would have been if units were totally booked.
2. The property requires that you wear permanent bracelets to access the pool. You can not take these off so you are stuck wearing them throughout your trip. Should switch to a removable bracelet.
3. Had a horrible experience at the time share presentation. The person dealing with us was rude and unprofessional...we walked out. Will chalk this up to one bad apple as everyone else in the resort was very accomodating.

We moved here after our first week at the sister resort Williamsburg Plantation. This resort is newer and the units are more modern and exceptionally well equipped. There is still building work going on but we did not find this intrusive. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and professional. A range of activities are available although we did not participate. The two pools are lovely and there are plenty of sunbeds for those wanting to relax. The resort is in a very convenient location for the local attractions and the huge Premium Outlets!
We would highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: There are three levels in each building. We were on the ground floor and did experience some noise f...

I recently came back from The colonies at Williamsburg. The place is very modern, the facilities are great and the staff is courteous and helpful. The pictures are true to life and they have two fantastic pools, an indoor and outdoor one. There is also a gym on premises, and it is centrally located to just about everything in Williamsburg. I think the one possible drawback to this place depending on your circumstances is that the units do not have and elevator or escalator. So if you are traveling with someone older or someone with a disability I would recommend requesting a first floor room. If you forget to make your request, the staff will gladly switch your unit if another one is available.

We stayed at this resort on our recent trip to Williamsburg. Check in was quick and efficient. We did arrive late, around 7:00 PM, so there was not a big rush of people checking in at the time. The front desk clerk was friendly. Our room was right in the first court on the second floor. The stairway up to the second floor and the hallway had no air conditioning, so in summer, carrying up the luggage was very hot. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Quality of furnishings is not the best, and as the resort gets older, will show wear and tear. The couch was very uncomfortable but the living room chairs were comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were pretty comfortable. It would be nice if the second bedroom had two beds like most other timeshare resorts, instead of just the one. We noticed that housekeeping hadn't left any washcloths, so we called the front desk and they had them sent up right away. The second floor units have a washer/dryer within the unit, so you don't have to share. This is handy when traveling with kids. As other reviewers stated, there are only 6 towels in the room. After reading the reviews, we brought a few from home so we did not ask for extras.
The pools are very nice, although the indoor pool area is very heavily chlorinated so it has a very strong smell. There is a small game room with ping pong and a few arcade games. They had a few activities during the day, but not much, however we were at the parks and did not participate in any. There is a small playground and tennis courts as well. We were told that they are building a large indoor water park at this resort and it should be ready next year. That will be nice for winter months when Water Country USA is not open.
The guest services desk presented us with a "welcome package" (a bag with flyers in it, how exciting!). They also told us they would send us on a complimentary breakfast or lunch at a nearby restaurant (up to 6 people) and then ask us to participate in a 45 minute survey about the resort afterwards. In addition to the free lunch, they would give us a $75 gift card. So we did this and the lunch was very nice. The "survey", however, was really a sales pitch to buy the timeshare. We had no problem with this as it was expected since they were giving us gifts. However, it was longer than 45 minutes and the sales person and manager both had attitudes when we declined the offer.
Overall, the resort was very nice and I would definitely recommend it.

Our family of a married couple and daughters ages 10 and 6 had a wonderful week of fun and relaxation. The staff was friendly and always available. We used the pool several times with visits at different times of the day. There were often other families which our children played with allowing us time to relax in the large adult only "warm" tub. Although the tub was simply warm and not hot it was perfect for our July 4, 100 degree weather. On our last day the girls requested to just stay at our resort pool area instead of revisiting Busch Gardens or Water Country. We did stay at the resort the afternoon of July 4th and enjoyed their organized activities and prepared menu.
The location is convenient. We visited Busch Gardens, Water Country, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg. Although visiting the area during a crowded and hot time of the year, our unit allowed us time to cool off and rest in a comfortable relaxing place. There are many stores and restuarants in the area. We preferred to eat at the parks while visiting them. We shopped the local grocery and ate breakfast and some other meals in our unit. We all were able to spread out and enjoy family time as well as private time in our lovely unit. The three flat screen TVs accomodated all. The roomy bathrooms and to die for shower in the master were great.
We had no complaints!! We loved it. We have stayed in Willimasburg at three other similar resorts. This will be my first pick in the future. A perfect place for family fun and relaxation.
