“Once Again: Wonderful”

Loved this place two years ago, loved it on this trip, too. Our two-bedroom was definitely renovated, as I requested. Decor was great, it was clean, everything worked well. Played mini-golf, swam in the outdoor pools, even though it was October, used the hot tub and the fitness room. Fife and drums were playing when we arrived, which was a nice touch. If you get a good rate here, the value is tremendous.

The resort is quite nice, the grounds are pleasant, as advised we did ring twice (once from UK and once the day before we arrived) to ensure we had a renovated room, Yes they said.

We had what they called a 1-bed condo but in fact there were 2 more beds in the loft area, so it could sleep 4.

When we got there we were NOT that impressed with the room, the size was great, beds good but it was somewhat sad. We had unpacked (silly us) for a 3 day stay and that evening I did question whether we had a renovated room..... Why Yes was the reply these condos were renovated about 5 years ago!!!!!! They did offer to move us if we packed up immediately but we couldn't be bothered. So the moral is WHEN was it renovated?

It was a great location for Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown.
BTW we did take them up on their offer for a timeshare talk (90mins of our time and they did stick to 90mins). Of course we had no intention whatsoever of buying one, you have to be determined not to be swayed on this. For this we got 2 free 2 day tickets to Williamsburg which saved us $46 each.
We did book this condo through Hotwire so we had a good price and still considered it good value even though the room was somewhat shabby.

Stayed at this resort week of Sept 26. Had to check out early, but hated to leave. We found this resort to be a pleasure to stay in. Clean, comfortable , quiet, good location. Stayed in a second floor two bedroom unit. Room was clean and comfortable. Very spacious. YES there were permanent stains on rugs. Blame prior guests not resort for this problem. Resort cannot replace rugs everytime guests are careless! Cannot say enough about the front desk. They were pleasant, courteous, and helpful when we had a car problem and had to find a particular dealership quickly. We definately will stay at this resort again

This was our second visit to Historic Powhatan, both were great visits. The first visit was December of 2006, this visit was August 2009. Rooms were clean and furnishings were up to date. The renovation project has pleased us, new appliances, granite counters, and very comfortable bedding. Staff was kind and very helpful. The grounds are well kept, nature abounds. Outdoor pools were very nice, indoor pool was in the process of renovation, but in August, who wants indoors! Powhatan is just a short drive to every where, and in a nice quiet country setting, Great resort

Arrived after 11PM on FRI. Check In was quick and easy... Called hotel prior and found out web site and GPS directions were wrong!!! Woman on phone gave great directions so drove right there! Room was clean and beautiful.. Requested an extra clean room (as son recovering from surgery) and a bottle of cleaning fluid and roll of paper towels left in room by cleaning staff (unnecessary as room was spotless). We had a recently renovated room and other sections of the resort were in the process of renovation. Would recommend calling reservations to insure you get a renovated room as some of the reviews were bad and you should ensure you get what your expecting. Plantation House was open and you could walk around on your own (fun on rainy days)... General Store was excellent and had necessities... Man in store was knowledgable about Williamsburg and gave us useful insider info and a map. Concierge desk was also very friendly and useful. Pool was beautiful, but didn't have time to get in. Would love to go again!

We arrived on Sept. 3rd, Friday and our check in went well. We are owners with Diamond, but we had another week that we had banked with RCI that we had to use and so we came in on that week. We were greeting very cordially, were given information on the weeks activities, the layout of the property and off we went to our unit.
When we opened the door, we were a little disappointed that we had an upstairs unit rather than a first floor, but that was not bad. However, upon entering the condo, we noticed that it looked rather shabby. Carpet needed cleaning and looked worn, the sink in the kitchen was actually in crooked. The cupboards needed to be replaced and the area under the sink was warped so that the dish soap could not stand straight. I did not unpack, but sat down to look at some brochures and thought about dinner. We decided to go back to the front desk and tell them that we were actually Diamond Elite owners and were not happy with the condition of the room.
Upon arriving at the front desk and having given the agent our story, she went into the back to talk with a manager and came back with another room that we could look at. We took the key and headed for the new unit. Upon opening the door and still going to the 2nd floor, we saw an immediate difference. The carpet looked new, the appliances were up to date and in good condition. The kitchen sink was new and neatly installed. We went back to the front desk and told them that we would move into this new unit. If we had not been Diamond Elite owners, I don't know if we would have been given the remodeled room. If you get a chance, go and look at the units that are for the Diamond Owners. They are really beautiful.
The grounds were gorgeous.. The Manor house was great complete with a costumed story teller on two nights talking about the ghosts that inhabited it and the history of the plantation. There were 3 outside pools, an indoor pool and two hot tubs, two restaurants on site, tennis courts, racketball, exercise room and 200 acres to roam around on.
There were not many organized activities. There was supposed to be a welcome party at poolside on Labor Day, but it got rained out. It was close enough to Williamsburg, Jamestowne, and Yorktowne to do them in a day trip. That would be one day for each of them, not all of them on one day. When we left there, we drove up to Washington DC for some more sightseeing.
Grocery stores are near by. There is even a Trader Joe's, if you want to do some gourmet shopping.
We would defintely stay there again the next time we go to Virginia.

The room needs updating. The unit was clean but the carpet was dirty. They attempted to clean it but someone prior had a big party and stained the carpet badly. The jacuzzi was in another spa type room but it did not work. Yes, I agree, need to request a renovated unit. Staff was cordial.
