“Well worth it!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

My family took a 400 mile drive from NY & rented a 1 bedroom condo (first floor) last weekend. My experience with the resort are great. Though we never tried the clubhouse pool, the jacuzzi inside our condo is worth the $$$, especially after a long day at the parks. We rented a renovated condo, the bed are nice & there's a pull out sofa bed is great for my 2 children. The place is very clean, & will come back again next year....

We stayed in a beautifully appointed 2 bedroom suite. Perfect for our family of 5. Very clean & comfortable. Our family can't wait to return again to enjoy all that Williamsburg has to offer.

Room Tip: Not sure if all suites have been refurbished now but make sure to ask for one when you book.

We exchanged into this resort from our timeshare. We found this to be the least well-maintained place we had stayed, though there was evidence that some updated has occurred [new kitchen and bath counters]. Our rug had a large number of odd stains in the living room area, and had stretched so a portion didn't lie flat. The deck paint was peeling big time. One lamp was in 2 pieces and fell apart if you touched it. We found them stingier with towels than most places and NO BATHMATS. Many places also provide a kitchen towel, which Powhatan does not. We just washed towels midweek in the in-unit washer/dryer and had someone joining us later pack bathmats and kitchen towels. As with most timeshares, there is a push for you to take a sales pitch - just keep saying no unless you are interested in buying. On the plus side, there was better lighting in our unit than in just about any other timeshare of hotel we've been in. Also the soundproofing between units was very good - never heard the folks downstairs. Kitchen was well-equipped. Location is very convenient to Jamestown and Colonial Williamsburg.

We had a very nice stay here last week. We had a one bedroom unit that was very spacious and clean. We were travelling with a lot of family and were able to host about 20 people for an informal dinner in our unit. The pools were very nice, we got a lot of use of the very large 3-4 foot pool with our two kids. Conveniently located near grocery stores, restaurants, Starbucks, panera, etc. We did get ambushed right at check in by the timeshare agents, but was able to escape with only a little effort. Would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I were dooped into buying a time share in our much younger days, but we make the most of it when we travel and have actually stayed in some nice places. This place is about middle of the road. The location is great, the rooms were clean. I would even go as far as to say it was rather homey. However, the kitchen could really use some updating. Some people won't care because they don't use the kitchen when traveling, but I can only eat out so much. My other big qualm is that, for a resort that thinks they are this nice, to not offer free or reasonably priced wireless internet is ridiculous, especially in a town like Williamsburg where free wireless internet is emitted from butterflies and pigeon butts.

We spent 5 nights at Powhatan the first week of August. My husband & I had a unit and our daughter and her family were in a unit 2 doors away (ground floor). In the middle of their first night (3am) a water pipe burst near our granddaughter's head with cascading water and a corner of the ceiling starting to peel away; she and her brother jumped out of bed (scared to death) and yelled for their parents. They got the kids and stuff out of that room and called the operator; they were moved out of there within the hour by a very kind maintenance man to another unit a half mile from us. 2 of their sons were staying in our unit. After the move, no one called to bring them new keys (they had to call several times) and no one from management called to see how they were doing the rest of the week. Our son-in-law had to go up to the main office to ask for compensation (yes, a 100$ meal voucher for the grill and 2 nights points for us to use in 2011). We know they area booked solid through the fall, but felt someone from management should have followed up. Our family had a great time at the pool and walking around the grounds. We made the mistake of listening to the sales pitch for the umpteenth time and walked out before getting our free gift due to the ovewhelming pressure we felt to turn our deed over to the Trust. We won't go to another sales pitch. Yes, the place is in a beautiful setting close to Busch Garden and historical sites. The place needs a facelift, a redo, but they ARE TRYING to keep up this older resort. We had 4 lamps that needed bulbs, ants on the counter; maintenance came after 2 calls and fixed the problem.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodeled room, an updated room

Having booked at the Historic Powhatan Resort on short notice, I did not have the opportunity to read all of the reviews on TA. However, the few that I read indicated I may be looking for trouble, by staying at this resort. Nothing could be further from the truth. My family and I loved staying here for many reasons: the full kitchen, two bathrooms, hot tub in unit, washer/dryer in unit, proximity to all of Williamsburg's attractions, the two swimming pools, the activities areas and more.

We stayed here for 5 nights. My recommendation is to request two things when booking at this resort: ground floor unit and renovated unit. Also, during check-in, adamantly decline the request to see the concierge or receive a welcome package, unless you're interested in purchasing a timeshare. This is a precursor to a lengthy sales pitch.

The grounds were beautiful. There are two pool areas; the outdoor pool consists of three separate pools (one is exclusively for adults); the indoor pool consists of a large pool and a couple of spa pools, including a sauna in the bathrooms. There was a separate racketball court area. Multiple activities and games are included. All of it is available free of charge. Ponds are scattered across the resort with local wildlife (ducks, fish, turtles).

The rooms were very accommodating. Since our unit was on the ground floor, it had a separate area for the hot tub, large enough to hold four adults comfortably. There was a patio in the back, with table and chairs, and a view to the pond.

The only negative would be that there is no room service; but, we knew that when we reserved at this resort. We laundered our towels and other linen with the available laudry in the unit. There are trash cans located close to the units, for depositing your daily trash.

Our primary purpose of visiting Williamsburg was to visit Busch Gardens and Water Country. The location of the Powhatan meant we could be at either location within 15 minutes, bypassing most of the heavily trafficked roads. There were major shopping centers within 15-20 minutes' drive of the Powhatan. So, the location of this resort is ideal for a family wanting to enjoy the local attractions.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The kids loved the pools and hot tub. My wife and I loved the spaciousness of the unit and availability of a full kitchen. And, overall I was satisified with the price to amenities ratio.

Room Tip: Reserve a ground-floor unit; request a renovated unit; avoid sales pitch, during check-in
