“Locals Love it”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We were on vacation and asked around for a good seafood restaurant. This place was recommended so we thought we'd try it. Went on a Wednesday night and had to wait just a short time for a booth but they really wanted to please.
Got a great table and we enjoyed our crisp salads with great dressings. My husband ordered the Rockfish and it was perfect! I had the shrimp and scallops with Fettucine. Both were generous portions and we had great service from James who made super wine recommendations also.
This place will be one of our favs in Williamsburg from now on and no hesitation to suggest our friends enjoy it when they visit as well.

“Great food and good location!”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

My favorite place to eat while we were in Williamsburg! A great location next to the Outlet mall, we went shopping after our wonderful meal.

The hostess was friendly and took us right to a table. Our server was great and told us about the menu and the specials. It is a very kid friendly place, there were many families with small children, families with teens, many groups of young adults and couples of all ages. Great food, nice selection of beer and wine and the food was very good and not overpriced!

We will be back!

“Forget the steak and crab cake and go for the double crab cake dinner!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Oceans & Ale restaurant is located in a small strip mall near the “infamous” Pottery. Any GPS device will find Oceans & Ale restaurant very easily.

OK, the exterior is deceiving, and the first view of the interior is of a large horseshoe bar with tables in two sections. There are multiple TVs, but do not permit your first take to be a turn off!

We arrived near 5:00 PM for dinner, and once seated were charmed with the ambience. Having visited Colonial Williamsburg for 45 years, I maintain there are much better restaurants outside the Colonial district, and Oceans & Ale restaurant is one of them.

We like the beer selection, and especially the draught selection. We elected the current stout, and followed with a Fat Tire.

Nationwide crab cakes are a crapshoot! However, we are in the Tidewater, and Oceans & Ale restaurant prepares a great crab cake. Forget the steak and crab cake and go for the double crab cake dinner!

We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner prior to dinner, and I wanted something like a Guinness. The owner had the answer. Next I quizzed the owner on his crab cakes. We are from western Ohio, and most crab cakes are not fresh, have 40% filler, and resemble over fried “hockey pucks.”

Oceans & Ale restaurant serves the real deal! We might have been in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

Have I mentioned this feast for two came at around $40.00.

We would gladly dine here the rest of the week; however, thanks to TripAdvisor, I have a great list of nearby restaurants. TripAdvisor contributors, please keep all of the excellent, awful, and average advice coming. We really appreciate peer to peer advice.

“Ok food, but overpriced...”
Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

I had the fish and chips that did not deliver on the $13 price tag. The fish was mushy and was served in a paper lined plastic basket. The $8 "Masonarita" was good, but also overpriced for the 12 ounce drink.

If I were to try it again, it will be for the all you can eat wings or crab legs nights...
