“Typical Hampton - Excellent”
Reviewed October 25, 2009

Stayed 3 nights October 15 - 17. This was a typical Hampton Inn stay for us - excellent in all categories. If I were to offer anything negative it would be that clean-up in the breakfast room could be more timely.
I must editorialize, however, on the oxterior of the property. The Comfort Inn next door has a large colorful sign that dwarfs that of Hamption, which is smaller, light blue and is set farther back from the road. There are no street lights to help a traveler find the main drive into the property, so it's easy to miss unless one is very careful. Also, there is a large brick planter in the middle of the main drive into the property. This is a stupid design flaw and a major safety hazzard.

I can't believe that Trip Advisor is giving this hotel only 2 stars; it is at least a 3 or more. The hotel itself is sparkling clean & new, having just opened in the Spring & is reflected in the decor throughout - bedding, bed, accoutrements, flat screen tv, granite countertops in bathroom & windowsills. It is in an ideal location for visiting Williamburg - easy to find & (if you drive slow) maybe a 10 minute drive to the Visitor Center - the heart of the Williamsburg stage. The breakfast was a step above the usual continetal, with sausage & different style of eggs each day as well as all the other foods at many continental breakfasts. The young lady in charge of it was continually running around, filling anything that got low & cleaning off the tables. Other than the rain we had, it was a wonderful experience I definitely HIGHLY recommend this hotel. You will not be disappointed.

Stayed 2 nights while visiting Historic Williamsburg. New hotel with a fairly large room decorated with colonial influence. Good complimentary breakfast.

At least right now, this hotel is the closest you can get to the Colonial Williamsburg Historic Area, without actually staying in the official William$burg hotels. That's a huge plus. Even better is that the hotel is rather new, and so everything is very nice. It's generally a standard Hampton Inn, the usual breakfast (mostly continental, with one hot option per day), and the very comfortable beds.

Only a couple bad things: The HVAC units are very very very loud. You will get used to them if you stay several days, and they will probably not keep you awake, but they are loud. Housekeeping will also turn the temperature up to 75 while you're gone, so the room will be toasty when you come in...I actually had to turn the temp down and leave one afternoon because it was too warm for me.

If you do stay here, pay the extra few bucks and get the suite. The suites are not only very spacious but (I think) they are also all isolated, in the corners of the hotel by themselves. This means you literally have no neighbors and will hear absolutely nothing (except perhaps a little running water above you).

I had made an advanced reservation because my friends had reserved there, but was given the room rate of someone who had not made an advanced reservation since the reservation was made less than a week in advance. I was charged nearly $200 for one night of sleeping in a bed for less than 7 hours. The breakfast on Saturday morning was awful. The OJ tasted bad and all they had was cereal and some fake eggs that tasted like rubber. I was given a handicapped room - though I had not requested one - they had never indicated they were giving me that. I was in a rush to see friends in the area so I did not take the time to ask to change the room. You'd think they'd give you a discount for reserving a room inadvance (guaranteed money for them). There was a no-refund-for-cancellation-policy as well - thats just bad business, esp if they had so much business. (My friends wanted to cancel, too, but stayed only one night since they couldnt cancel and didnt want to be charged $200 for nothing). The room was missing washcloths and hand towels and the bath towels that were in the room were wet and one seemed used and not cleaned. There were bugs in the bathroom which I had to kill, and the bedroom lights were poorly placed and the room poorly lit. The bathroom door opened smack in the way of the room door and also opened so that it was open to the room doorway - real nice for privacy, and for going to the bathroom at night when you have to open the door outwards and furthest away from the direction of the bed. Awful experience, WAY overpriced (financial rape!) and not so great rooms or hotel to begin with. Awful entry and exit to hotel on major roadway that is 5-6 lanes wide. Narrow entrance road with unclear signage, right next to another hotel and parking lot. Terrible view of the mechanicals and the woods from my room. The only redeeming feature was a comfortable king bed. Other than that - it sucked. I will NEVER go back.

I've stayed at over thirty Hampton Inn locations and this one is the best so far! Excellent service and the room (403) was large and nicely appointed.
