This B&B is just across Lafayette Street from CW and less than a 5 minute walk to the Capitol building, jail and Christiana Campell's. It is the only property that I am aware of, that is on this side of CW which makes it a very quiet place to stay. A one mile walk up DoG street has you in the hustle and bustle of Merchant's square if you are looking for more activity, all without having to worry about moving the car.
We were welcomed and offered a glass of iced tea upon our arrival. We stayed in the Nicholson room, just inside the front door to the left. The room has 2 chairs, a sofa, a queen 4 poster, a closet and a bathroom with shower. It was quiet and comfortable and we enjoyed having the porch for morning breakfast and a glass of wine it the evening. The hummingbirds were particularly entertaining in the mornings.
Breakfast morning #1 was waffles topped with whipped cream and fruit, sausage links, OJ and your choice of coffee or tea. Morning #2 was individual baked egg soufflés with meat, cheese and veggies, sliced oranges and a slice of cinnamon bread accompanied again by OJ and coffee or tea.
Our hosts were pleasant and we plan on visiting again.

My husband and I recently spent four nights at Governor's Trace. Loved the room, loved the location, loved the food, loved the innkeeper, loved the lack of technology. After a few hectic days in DC it was wonderful to unplug and just enjoy life. Don't worry, Wi-fi is available if you need it. The breakfast is substantial which set us up for long days touring sites in the Historic Triangle. The homemade afternoon treats were also delicious and a welcome pick-me-up before heading out to dinner. Thank you, Patty!

From the warm welcome from Sue and Dick at the big red door of this beautiful old home, through the hall and common rooms (that are more art museum than anything else), to our comfortable and beautifully furnished bedroom, we were simply blown over by the feeling that this is something very special. The sumptuous breakfast -- get this -- served privately, in our room, at the time we requested, on a roll-in table set up formally on linens and with candlelight in the center, was over the top. The location is unbeatable -- parking is on the property, just leave the car and walk about 300 yards and you are right in the historic district of Colonial Williamsburg.

There was even a large private patio outside our first-floor room.

This is a great place to stay, and we would recommend it without any hesitation.

Room Tip: If you have a mobility problem, reserve a room on the first floor. That way you can avoid the long s...

We spent the 2nd-4th nights of our Honeymoon at the Governor's Trace and we still dream of going back for an anniversary Repeat. The Atmosphere, the in room Candlelight Breakfast and toasty fireplace in the room made our December Trip very memorable. The Hosts and their level of care have been hard to beat in the years since staying at numerous B&B's! The biggest reason to select this B&B over others in Williamsburg is the closeness to the historic district. You can walk everywhere in the Historic District and leave your car parked.

Room Tip: The Alexander Spotswood room has a real wood burning fireplace and waist high king sized canopy bed...

My husband and I are seasoned B&B travelers, and rarely stay in the same place twice, because we like the experience of something new each time we travel. We return to Governor's Trace, though, first because the Alexander Spotswood room is spacious and perfectly set up for our working vacations; second because it is one of those rare B&Bs that offers you a private breakfast so that you aren't forced to sit at a communal breakfast when all you want to do is read a book while you drink coffee; and third because Dick and Sue have a genuine talent for hospitality. Thank you for another pleasant stay.

Room Tip: The Alexander Spottswood room has a very spacious bathroom and a four-poster bed. It is the most ex...

Worry free vacation. Is there anything more relaxing? Don't worry about sleeping, don't worry about eating breakfast, don't worry about parking, don't worry about knowing what is available in the area...Sue and Dick take care of all this for you. Governor's Trace B & B was a WONDERFUL experience. From beginning to lingering end, it was comfortable and relaxing. So often you sacrifice convenience for comfort or privacy. You don't at Governor's Trace. If you are looking for crowning touch to the Williamsburg Inn, this is the jewel of the area!

Room Tip: The rooms are beautifully decorated so there are no bad rooms.

From the first time we knocked on the door until the minute we left we could not have asked for a more perfect stay then what we got at Gavernor's Trace. You have about a 40 second walk to colonial Williamsburg. This was me and my wifes first go at a bed and breakfast and we where so taken away that we are going to be staying here any time we are in the area. Dick and Sue are the most amazing host you could ever ask for. They took care of us and made our night amazing. The room was spacious and the porch was a great place to have breakfast. If you need a place to stay while you are here this is a great one.
