This was our second stay at The Newport House and we absolutely love it. The bedrooms are always clean. The house was made to be as historically accurate as possible so be prepared for the locks to only work when you are inside the bedroom. Plan extra time for breakfast because the host, John, always has wonderful historical stories to share while you are eating. Breakfast always starts with a bowl of fruit which is usually the best fruit you can get. The hosts are warm and welcoming and will help you with anything you need. If you are unsure of what to do when you are in Williamsburg be sure to ask because the hosts can tell you exactly where to go.

What a delightful spot to stay in this little historical burg of Americana! If you are traveling to Williamsburg to experience life in colonial times, Newport House will immerse you in the history before you step out the door. It is architecturally accurate to the colonial period and filled with antiques/reproductions of the period. The bedroom was lovely and the bed comfy!
But of greater importance to us, as inveterate B&B fans, were our lovely host and hostess. In addition to a great breakfast, they provide a bit of history to go along with it. Too much fun for this history lover! And on Tuesday night we were cordially invited, but declined, to join in an evening of colonial dancing. We were, nevertheless, an enthusiastic audience!
Really, storytelling and dancing...how often do you get those perks at a B&B?!
We are looking forward to making a return trip to finish our sightseeing and continue our learning with John and Cathy ! Thanks for a great time, Millars!

This is the quintessential B&B experience, combining 18th century ambience with 21st century comfort. The house is within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg, so we never had to use the car. The proprietors are friendly, helpful and well informed. The historical breakfast recipes were fascinating and tasty. John is an avid historian with many less-well-known stories to tell. Be sure to ask him about how pirate loot financed the College of William and Mary. Cathy tends the lovely gardens. Be sure to ask her about how she made friends with a wild turtle. The night we arrived was their weekly English Country Dance. My wife and I have some experience with ECD, so we joined right in and had a blast. Even if you don’t feel like dancing, it is great fun to watch. All in all, it was a totally delightful experience – highly recommended.

My daughter and I had a lovely, gracious, fascinating four day stay at Newport House B&B. My daughter began her studies at William and Mary so we arrived early for orientation. I agree with everything that has been written: attentive and interesting hosts + a lovely historic experience + very good breakfasts + proximity to Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William and Mary + a ballroom outside our 2nd floor suite door…how many people can say that? We watched the Scottish dancing held Thursday evening and was impressed by how kind and inviting the dancers were asking us to join in. We may try the Tuesday evening English dance if our next visit includes a Tuesday. The only downside (which is also an upside) is that they have just two suites so we will plan ahead for our next visit to Williamsburg to stay at Newport House. Kudos to John and Cathy for helping us feel so at home in such a brief time.

Room Tip: There are two suites, both similarly furnished so both are good.

Cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Williamsburg, VA! John and Cathy Millar are amazing hosts, and enriched our family vacation. They provided great travel recommendations, insight into the past and the present in that part of the country, and were just a delight. This B & B is charming, comfortable and special; it is beautifully furnished and maintained. Guests enjoy the most delicious (and elegantly served) breakfast each morning along with great annecdotes and information about the history and people of VA and the colonies. We took part in the Tuesday night colonial dancing hosted by John and Cathy each week and that was great fun. We are tempted to have our daughter skp 8th grade Ameican History classes and spend an enriching and entertaining year at Newport House instead! :-)
Great accomodation for single adults, couples, and families with children 8 years and up!
We are recommending to all friends and family who love to travel!
