“Adequate stay - Bluegreen property”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Parkside resort is a BlueGreen property. It was close enough to Colonial Williamsburg (we had our own car to drive around). It was right across from Busch Gardens AND a loud train track which we heard in the middle of the night. Clean rooms but the beds are always terrible. Don't count on having a great bed ever at a Bluegreen resort. Pools looked fun but we went in fall when they were closed. It was strange trying to get back to the hotel from Colonial WIlliamsburg - had to go out of the way and without a GPS it was not obvious. IT was adequate for one night stay.

Just got back from 3 days at the Parkside Resort and thoroughly enjoyed the property. 1 bedroom unit had TWO bathrooms, so I got my own while dear hubby had his!! Unit was clean, nicely decorated and had a gas fireplace. Full kitchen was well supplied and the resort's location would have been perfect had we been going to Busch Gardens. As it was, we were visiting the historic area in Williamsburg, so we had about a 10 minute drive. Not that big of a deal. Staff at the resort were very friendly and helpful. One call to service for a new light bulb and the repairman was at the unit within 5 minutes! We'd go back there anytime! One note, however...the resort website that came with our confirmation from RCI showed the units as having queen- and king-sized beds. I had called to request the king-sized bed, but we got what we thought was the queen-sized....UNTIL we went to bed! Then we figured out we were sleeping in a double!!! So.....if you care about the size of your bed, you might want to double check it when you get to the unit and request a move if you aren't happy with what you got. We were so pleased with the unit and the fact we had two bathrooms, that we didn't bother to comment to the staff about the bed size. OH, there are train tracks across the highway so you will hear trains passing by in the night. And the wifi was not sufficient to use my iPad or my smart phone.

This resort is new, beautiful two bedrooms, deck, living room, full kitchen and 2 bedrooms. Comfortable beds and linens, washer dryer always a plus. The pool area is interesting and fun with a slide, some fountains, in a lazy river shape and large so lots of deck space. While you can see Busch Gardens from your front door (and fun because you can watch the fireworks from the front of the property), it is a couple of miles because of the highway configuration. No restaurant on site nor near the property, but a nice grocery and shopping area a couple miles away. Dining in Williamsburg a bit of a disappointment anyway because everything closes so early, so better to shop and treat yourself to good meals you can cook. Now the only negative we had here, the train. Maybe quaint to some, an alarm clock for us at about 6:00 am, and 7, and 8. Oh well, I would still decide to stay at the Parkside for the beautiful new spacious rooms and proximity to Busch Gardens. Based on my other reviews of the area, Busch is the best part of Williamsburg and even though this is a bit off the beaten track, nothing is that far away once you understand the city. We are a Bluegreen owner and in comparison to other Bluegreen resorts, the rooms and pool are on par if not better because they are new with other resorts. They only have one building built though and others appear to have stopped for now, so you are lucky to get in. We booked 10 months early. If we ever come back to the area, this is where we will stay.

I recently stayed here as part of a DVC/RCI exchange and was pleasantly surprised with the resort. We arrived into town early on our check in day and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. They knew us by name from the minute we arrived and knew exactly what time our room would be ready (about 2 hours earlier than advertised). They accommodated a special request right away and the concierge was able to give us tons of information about the area before we took off to do stuff.

When we arrived back to the resort the room was ready as promised. We had a 1 bedroom room for two adults and two teenagers. The kitchen was well appointed, there was ample space to sit down and eat, and the living room was nice. A little on the small side, but definitely livable. The bathrooms were large and had a lot of storage. The main bedroom was spacious and well thought out. We found the bed to be very comfortable and the pull out couch was larger than expected. There were enough TV stations, freezing cold a/c unit (we loved it!), and enough hot water for two people to shower at the same time.

The pool area was very nice and great for kids. The only construction going on at the resort is behind the pool and didn't bother us at all. There is tons of parking available as there are only a few units in one building. The main building is very nice as well and always has coffee and lemonade available.

We only encountered 3 issues during our stay. First off, the room only had 4 each of plates/cups/glasses/utensils/etc. This was a little inconvenient since we constantly had to run the dishwasher (with practically nothing in it) just so we could eat at the next meal. Second, the wi-fi connection was virtually non-existent. One of our computers would get a weak signal in one very specific corner of the room but that was it. We inquired about this and the staff said they were "working on it" but in the meantime we could use the wired connection with the ethernet cable. That would have worked but none of our devices had a slot for that kind of cable. It was disappointing and a bit frustrating. Until this problem is fixed I would recommend future visitors to bring their own wireless router to set up a wi-fi network. We normally do this at DVC resorts but didn't think it would be necessary at this resort. Our third issue was with the minimal on-site entertainment options. One evening the weather was horrible and we ended up in our room early in the evening with nothing to do. We inquired about possible options and were told there was a game room in the main building. We braved the weather outside to find a mostly empty "game room." I had been hoping to find some board games, video games, or maybe even DVDs to borrow (since there were two DVD players our room) but there was nothing. Very disappointing. We ended up venturing to Target and bought some cheapo DVDs to watch.

Other than those three relatively minor inconveniences we were pleasantly surprised with the resort. We would absolutely return without hesitation.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are in the same building. We were on the first floor and didn't hear a peep fr...

At first glance everything seems perfect...wi fi didn't work entire time we were there. We stayed in a 1 bed room with little to no place to keep clothes. Description says if sleeps 4 which was o!ur party size and we lived out of suit cases the entire 5 days we were there. There were also only place settings for 4 in the kitchen which made doing dishes a regular chore. Play room over registration area was a joke. We stopped by on a rainy day and the games were broken or just plain non existent. Pool looked awesome, but had no time to try out. All and all it was very clean and would consider staying again.

Staff was very friendly. We arrived early and were able to check in early. Our accommodations were different than expected. We booked a 2 bedroom combined for our family of 8. The rooms were beside each other, but not actually combined - they were 2 different rooms. However, the rooms worked out fine. Both were 1 bedroom suites with a living area (pull-out couch, chair, tv)/dining area (table with 4 chairs)/kitchen (full fridge/oven range/dishwasher/sink, 2 bar stools at a counter). One room had a king size bed and a handicapped accessible bathroom while the other room had a queen size bed, 2 bathrooms, and a fireplace. The rooms were clean (most important). The paint already needs touching up due to lots of scuff marks. Could see Busch Gardens roller coasters across the roads and rail road tracks, but had to drive to get there - still very convenient.

We went to Bush Gardens Christmastown. See my separate review.

Ate breakfast at the sister resort for free one day. My husband prefers a hot meal, so we only did that once. For a light breakfast I thought it was great. It had apples, oranges, bagels, cream cheese - both strawberry and regular, butter, apple and orange juice, coffee, various muffins and pastries.

In comparison to our recent stay at The Suites at Hershey: We heard the trains here more and louder than at The Suites at Hershey, but nothing to prevent us from returning (and I am a light sleeper). The Suites at Hershey were more spacious and more recently renovated.

The closest Walmart is close to the Great Wolf Lodge, so we stopped by and saw the real and large Gingerbread House.

My husband and 3 teenage girls stayed for the weekend to go to Busch Gardens Howl-o-Scream. Had a 2 bedroom suite. The resort is a very short ride to the park. You can see 2 of the roller coaters from the resort. Everything was very clean and spacious. Had no problems. Cant say anything about the pool because its the middle of October so it was not open. Staff was very kind and helpful. Would definately go there again!
