“Convenient Williamsburg VA Hotel”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

For those looking for something a few steps up from the mundane discount hotels, try the WestGate Historic District Hotel in Williamsburg. Only 1.5 miles from Merchant's Square and all things historic Colonial Williamsburg, this hotel offers very comfortable rooms with inside hall/corridors you would find in 4 star hotels. Reasonable rates, great outdoor swimming pool, comfortable accommodations in the suites themselves, and a location that is pretty unbeatable when visiting. Downside..only coffee served in the morning and room service is done through a national provider(can't recall name) if needed, which entails minimums, required tips, possible extra waiting time for delivery, etc. (Versus ordering in-hotel). But nearby are dozens of restaurants to satisfy all. Apparently it is a timeshare hotel, but we miraculously were never approached by anyone trying to sell us on the "merits" of timeshare ownership. (a few words from personal experience on timeshares in general: Don't do it.) So there you go, a review and a tip. You're welcome.

Room Tip: No restaurants on site, pets are $80 for the stay..not per night.

We stayed here on a combined work/play trip. The location was good, convenient to shopping, restaurants and Colonial Williamsburg. However, not much else good to say about the resort. The staff were courteous, but disengaged. The place is clearly a timeshare and we were encouraged to meet with the "concierge" to take a "survey". However, they didn't push this too hard (although the sales floor was furious on Saturday).

The room was in poor condition. The pullout couch was extremely stiff and uncomfortable to sit on. The mattress was saggy and in poor condition. The pull out frame had a plastic tie on it that had been slowly eating away at one of the arms of the couch so it was now ripped and tattered. One of the cushions had been the victim of a child's playtime with a pen, lines drawn all over one side.

The bedroom was tight, it was difficult to get down the window side of the bed because of the proximity to the window and curtains. The night stands were scratched and gouged.

The toilet made the most awful noise that it woke everyone up if flushed in the middle of the night. You also had to hold the handle down for 20 seconds to get it flushed.

Otherwise, the room was a typical one bedroom timeshare. The dishes and refrigerator were clean and were a nice addition for our 95 degree weekend. The kitchen was clean.

The place was loud and noise from adjoining rooms and the all was noticeable.

Overall the room was tolerable, but it was pricey for the condition. We stayed in the building that had the common areas (eg checking), so we can't comment on the other building.

Everyone at the hotel was kind and looking out for our needs. At first glance our room (studio) seemed like a typical motel room, but inside it contained a modern sleeping area and a fairly slick and recently updated kitchenette/bathroom area. My girlfriend and I were continually impressed by the layout, lighting, and overall design, notwithstanding the quality. Room aside, the pool/spa area was fun, and the backyard was well-groomed and contained plenty of picnic-type activities. They even left a daily activities sheet at our door every morning for mostly kids stuff (crafts) but also an FYI on the local farmers market at Merchants Sq, which you can easily walk to in about 20-25 mins (as long as it is not too hot). Shout out to Al and Gary who we helped us navigate the area!

Thank you for sharing your “Hospitable, Clean and Convenient” vacation experience at Westgate Resorts Historic Williamsburg. It is our goal to anticipate all of our guest needs. The Studio is well designed with more amenities than a typical hotel room. Our Activities team does a great job of suggesting on and off property activities. The pool is a fun area and the picnic area is a great place to have an evening cookout. Please remember us on your next trip to Williamsburg.

A group of 4 of us (plus baby!) stayed at the Westgate recently and were surprised at how great it was! Other reviews have been mixed, but we couldnt have had a better experience. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom suites and found it to be clean, well kept, recently renovated and beautiful. They had provided a crib for us with ample bedding. The kitchen is well stocked and it was the perfect weekend getaway for 4 adults plus baby. We'd definitely stay here again, if ever in the Williamsburg area!

Room Tip: Top floor facing the green space out back.

We (wife, 3 boys, & myself) stayed at Westgate over the week of 4th of July. We stayed in a 2 unit suite, the rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful with anything we needed. This resort is in a great location, very close to Colonial Williamsburg, and it was very easy to get around. We would definetly stay again!!

We were booked into a two bedroom suite. It was very clean and up-to-date. Staff was very attentive and response to any problems or questions we had.

Room Tip: Our room was a timeshare room. It was very nice and comfortable. especially the master bedroom.
