Don't go to this hotel expecting high luxury as you'll be sorely disappointed. Go with the knowledge that this is an older clean hotel with a friendly staff and great access to Merchants Square and historic Williamsburg and it'll be a great stay. We were here in mid-June and honestly felt it was a great value for the price. My 8 year old daughter and I walked from Merchants Square one evening and had a wonderful four block trip. Visitor's Center is very near as well. Of course you get the wonderful expensive soaps and shampoos as the other CWF hotels, but you don't have to pay the price for them. Housekeeping did an excellent job and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. It did get crowded in the breakfast area. Most people don't realize that there is another place to eat. Get your cereal, coffee, bagels, donuts, cocoa, milk, fruit, toast, etc., and then look for the stairs next to the front desk. They lead you to another sitting area. Not as nice as downstairs, but not nearly as crowded. Asked for a quiet room when I checked in and was moved away from the RR tracks mentioned in previous reviews. It was quiet until the last night when some kids were walking outside the upstairs room running a stick against the metal railing. Have stayed in the Williamsburg Lodge before and have to say that unless I was looking to throw my money away, I'd stay in the Governor's Inn again!

I was a little worried about staying here after i read some of the reviews on here.. but decided to do it anyway since there was a big price difference from any other hotel. It was my husband's and i 1 year wedding anniversary and we didn't think we were going to be able to go any were because of our budget at this time. i have to admit im a little spoiled and somewhat of a sherraton girl myself so i was very afraid. But it was pretty much this or nothing. We purchased the package deal from the bush gardens website.
we stayed from 3 nights from friday may 26th to monday may 29th.

When we first arrived to the hotel we checked in at the frount desk. the staff was very friendly, givings us a welcome package and our tickets to bush gardens. They offered to help with any directions that we might need. Then on to our room. The outside of the building could use some updating and i wouldn't recomend the elevator because it seems it can't run and use power to the lights inside at the same time. I was even more worried when we got to the door.

My fears were relieved when we stepped into the door. The room was pretty nice. Granted the carpet was very old and had seen a better day. But the room was very clean.we did the "bed bug" test every night but flying back the covers and seeing if anything runs. but never saw anything. infact the sheets felt like new and very clean. the bathrooms were spotless.

on saturday night i called the frount desk to ask about some of the greatest places to eat. The lady told me to try berrets (can't remember how to spell it ) in the shopping district in colonial williamsburg. We just got burgers and fries. It was great we ate outside on the grill side, the people on that side seemed much nicer. But i got a burger with fried mushrooms. They actually put them on the burger. I thought this was weird but it was excellent. On sunday night for our aniversary we went to yorktown to the riverwalk restaurant. You must have reservations for this one. But it was so beautiful, It is a great little area, It has a few little shops and the restaraunt is right on the river. It was very upscale and everything was top knoch. the drive down to yorktown is amazing, if you take the colonial parkway. It is this little street with no lines, the trees are covering the road and you pass some amazing brick bridges and tunnels. the trip down to the resturant was breathtaking. i would highly recommend this. When we got to the riverwalk there are sailboats and the beach. it was beautiful.

You can not beat this hotel for the price difference in williamsburg.

The rooms were dirty, the toilet didn't flush, there was little to no water pressure, the carpets were dirty; didn't want to take off your shoes; there were crumbs on the furniture, the staff was not helpful with visitor information; didn't know much about Williamsburg; out of brochures; the coffee pot did not work; the electric was flukey; our rooms were not ready on time and they were dirty when we checked into the first one. When the toilet didn't work, we had to move to another room. The second wasn't any better than the first. We stayed one night and checked out and went to another hotel for the remainder of our trip. The price was too high for the service and accommodations. Would not recommend for a long stay. One cheap night is all this was worth.
