Colonial Williamsburg is a good trip to bring American history to life for your children of all ages. Authentic looking cabins, wigwams, etc. really make you feel like you are actually there in the past. Be sure and go see the replicas of the Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria.

Colonial Williamsburg
This place is fantastic! There is so much to see, so much to do! We spent three days and still did not see everything we wanted so we are going back next month. There are the very popular sites to see such as the Governor's Palace and the Capitol Building at the end of Duke of Gloucester Street. But there is much more in addition. We did the Court House and my husband volunteered to role play in a case before the court. He played the part of a man accused of cheating a widow out of proper payment for her wool. The participants in the role playing were given cards describing their role and the circumstances of the case. Another very interesting activity was the archeology tour we took with a working archeologist. We met our guide on a designated street corner and he escorted us to the building where the archeologists worked. We sat around a table while the guide talked to us about the work and the discoveries that led to our knowledge of colonial Williamsburg. It was fascinating to learn how the archeologists reconstructed clues from the past to understand life in past times. The presentation was well worth our time. It was not at all dry and stuffy. Instead it was fascinating. Then we were led through the labs to see artifacts that have been cataloged and pieced together. We saw how the staff pieces together broken pieces of pottery.
