Owner description: Colonial Williamsburg is the only place that takes you back in time to the dawn of America. This isn't just a place where things once happened. They're happening, right now, here in the 18th century. We're the place where the idea of our country is being born; the place where the ideals we stand for as Americans are being defined. We are the 18th century "live," filled with the stories of the women, men, and children—free and enslaved—whose values and visions gave us a new world. Step back in time and meet the people who made America—sing with them, dance with them, eat with them, and have fun with them. For every person who wants to understand this country, this is your place.

We went during the summer heat wave. 7 of us including a 16, 14, and 12 year old. We only spent 2 hours total here. We got there at 9:30 and we were already boiling hot. We did see the storming of the palace, but really that was a disappointment as there was no 'storming'. We walked down the main street but most of the places with something to see or watch were very crowded as everyone wanted to be inside in the air conditioning. We left by 11:30 and went to Water Country. All 7 of us were disappointed. But maybe if the weather had been slightly cooler it would have been enjoyable. I just didn't feel as there was much to do. You definitely don't need to spend more than 4 hours at the most here. We were ok with a couple hours because we did the bounce pass and could leave and go somewhere else. The kids were all ready to go within 20 minutes of getting here. We wouldn't bother going back.

Wow, this was not what I expected Williamsburg to be. We took the shuttle in from the visitor center and they dropped us off at the beginning of gluchester st. We didnt know where to go, how to get there, what to see or how far it was. We would ask many of the costumed portrayers around town and they didnt know or didnt feel like helping. Some stayed in character and some were terribly out of character. Many of the houses were private or rented out by guests. Most homes had no signage so we had no idea what they were. The rest had very little history info outside. Some you could tour through and were good, like the silversmiths, the governors palace, bruton parrish church and the museum. The Pateick Henry reneactor was excellent. Most children I saw were bored, hot and tired. Tremendous amount of walking. Maps were not very helpful. Had to buy and read the history books on williamsburg or take a private tour (which none were available) in order to get a grasp on the history there. Saw a British officer go by with a gaurd and no one knew who he was portraying and he wouldnt speak to us. We all kept saying what a strange place. No drinks in the historic area except vending machines, no ice anywhere. No where to eat except merchant square and we didnt like the food there. Shuttles were a waste of time. The next day we drove the car and parked, must easier. Overpriced and low quality. Cant recommend Williamsburg, go to Jamestown and Yorktown instead or visit the plantations.

We last visited Williamsburg in December to soak in all of the colonial Christmas atmosphere and we loved it. Now in June we visited again and found many more of the artisans open. They were open and friendly, willing to answer a host of questions. The wood workers were outstanding. And I especially enjoyed speaking with the fabric artists.

Colonial Williamsburg was awesome! My 10 year old daughter loved it so much she is begging to go back again. She got to pick vegetables at one of the houses, learn how to use a printing press at another and many other things. All the people who work there are so nice and helpful and never to busy to answer a childs questions!

It was very nice. It was a little to hot to really enjoy it. But we found this little shop called "Retro" it is like a old time Soda Shop. We spent quite a bit of time in there. Went back more than twice. Naturally we had to go to the Peanut Shop.
