We just completed our 2nd visit and I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is. I am very glad to be able to let my daughter experience hands-on history in such a way. On this trip she participated in military drills, played a harpsicord, watched a binder, observed a colonial court in action and much more! We especially like the musical events that are offered.

We have been here for at least part of Grand Illumination weekend for several years and always enjoy it! In spite of coming so long, we almost always find something new to do! If you have not visited in December, be sure to take one of the decorations tour (note there is an additional charge) and be sure to visit one of the working kitchens - those employees are some of the most informative and entertaining we've found! Highly recommend the wheelwright's and weaver's shops as well as the armoury. Be sure to visit some of the gardens no matter in what season you visit.

One of my favorite places to visit! Stepping back in time, and learning about our country's early history is a great escape. The kids enjoyed all the hands on educational activities. I loved the rich, vibrant, storytelling re-enacted by all the characters. An over-all great experience.

there is so much to visit and see including making of coffee, shoes and the fine lumber used in their reproducing the historical buildings right on the spot. and you can see at your own pace.

We have never been to Williamsburg and my first time was on Christmas Eve. Our family came because we wanted our family to have a no commercial Christmas. It was the best thing ever for Christmas Eve. We went to the Twelve Days and Night before Christmas. It was a really nice two part event that brought the family and community together for Christmas. I would go again. It is worth the five for the event just to have the fun. We also did a walking tour before the cannons on Christmas Eve. the Christmas Eve cannons were amazing with the guns going off around the town. The drum and fifes were marching in the evening with the torches as they were going through the town. They ended at the court house were a program with a night sing and lighting of the Christmas Tree. The words of the event cannot even begin to say how wonderful and heartwarming the event is.

It is a must do for the history lover.

I would probably come at least one full day before and get better aquatinted if it was my first day. Make reservations for all dinners before arriving for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day So that you have a place to eat after the event. Bring warmer clothes for after dark. The damp air drops the temp down.
