Owner description: Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and Preservation Virginia.

Love this trip. Even my 8 year old was truly engaged. They strive for accuracy and take the history of the US seriously.

We were fortunate enough to have an archeologist give us the tour of the place and the findings that they had discovered! I learned more there than I did in any history book!

Our guide, Mark, was terrific! He really made history come alive, and was enthusiastic about sharing the new discoveries in Jamestown and how they help us understand what life was like during the 1600s on the island. Even if you have visited before, you will enjoy your visit, as the past is being uncovered in front of you as the archeologists work. The museum is also excellent.
The glassblowing demonstration is free, and if you have a National Park pass, the rest of this wonderful area is as well.

Jamestown is a great learning experience. You can literally watch archaeologists at work excavating the original fort. a great place to ponder all the things that went into founding America.
