The restaurant at L'Auberge Provencale is not cheap, but it is worth every penny. From the moment you walk in until the last plate is cleared, you are in for a first class dining experience. Everything - from the food to the service to the atmosphere - is exquisite and everyone in the place is working to ensure that every aspect of your dining experience is catered to.
Food - the food is both creative and delicious. The head chef is taking chances with food - working with interesting combinations and trying out visual surprises - while still maintaining hearty flavors and rich taste befitting of a french bed and breakfast. There is a tasting menu and a prix fix option, which allows for some great combination. The carpaccio reinvented is not to be missed
Service - the service is attentive without being overbearing. They ensure your glasses are full and your food is served hot. They also ensure that you are finished before whisking your plate from under your nose. The pace the courses nicely, so you have time to savor one flavor before moving on the next - a nice pace that doesn't feel rushed nor does it feel like they have forgotten you. Everyone in the restaurant is focused on the client, so a host may refill your wine glass or the busboy may top up your water - making it a very collaborative and attentive experience.
Atmosphere - this is an old house and, as such, has an old house intimacy. The space is nicely broken up by walls and alcoves to allow diner to feel more intimate. There is also a nice outdoor section for the warmer months. The decor is somewhat colonial with a french twist - which absolutely works. Dim enough to be soothing by bright enough to parse the delightful colors that will inevitably land on your plate.
A real dining experience.
