Passing thru Va as a halfway stop on the way North - deliberately chose Winchester just so we could celebrate our 22nd Anniversary at La Table Provençale. My husband had never been but understood instantly why I was so excited to share this place with him. It was a quiet night with the opportunity for a leisurely romantic culinary adventure. The menu is well thought out & beautifully executed. An absolute rare treat Foie Gras w/Cherry Griottines as delicious as we've ever had ANYWHERE including Paris France - my husband had a Hen egg that was a revelation, I then had Lobster Thermidor w/ parsnips ( adore ) main of Baramundi w/King Trumpet sorrel capped off by a Creme Brûlée that was a fitting end to a memorable outstanding meal. Thoughtful attentive service & a personal visit by chef Joseph Watters. Bravo!! They even called the afternoon of our visit to confirm if we had any food allergies. Do yourself a favor and take a drive into the lovely countryside to visit La Table. Closer than France. An experience we found on par with Little Washington & far less pricy! The ONLY reason we didn't stay at the B&B ( and we would have loved to) was lack of a pet friendly accommodation. Chef did make us a little Terres Major take home for our furson. A bonifide 5 star rating.

Local ingredients, fresh herbs and a magical chief bring a true 'food of the provinces' to the table. We celebrated a birthday and two nights away during the middle of the week. In addition to the gourmet breakfasts, we had the five-course menu for one our evening meal.
There were ample selections to choose from for each course.
I had Ham Risotto with figs, Beet salad, Pan Roasted Lamb, Apple Pie and Cheese plate.
Their great wine selection allowed me to have an excellent Cab while my wife enjoyed a Sauvignon Blanc. Service was friendly and attentive. We had our table for a leisurely meal.

We booked the get away here for the weekend which was fabulous to begin with as the staff is simply so pleasant and gracious. The dinner here, though, was simply fabulous and far and above better than most if not all we have been to in DC. The reason is the food quality is great, the creativity and skill of the dishes were spot on and the staff was a perfect mix of knowledgeable with friendly advice but not overbearing.

This is definitely a splurge, however for what you are getting, it's worth it.

This is a lovely Bed and Breakfast in White Post, Virginia. Make reservations for dinner because it's amazing. The owner, from France, is a fabulous chef and a very friendly inn owner/chef. The breakfast is absolutely delicious! Well worth getting up for! Take a walk out back where they grow everything - quite a garden.

Perhaps not quite as special as the Inn at Little Washington, but a much better value. The diner can choose only among a 3-course, a 5-course, and the longer chef's menu. Unfortunately, for the diet conscious, dessert is mandatory. Our party of 6 grumbled about that. But all the courses were truly inspired. Some portions are just right in size, some a little small, especially if one chooses the 3-course menu and bypasses dessert. The service was top-notch; our server was very knowledgeable and efficient. The wine list is quite extensive. We chose some local wines which we liked very much. Their cost was about double their retail price. The Bordeaux wines were very overpriced; so we avoided those.

The food is the reason to come to this B&B. The grounds are pleasant, but not a draw in themselves, in my opinion. The rooms are quite comfortable, ample, and functional. The suites are understandably larger than the rooms. Please note that Suites 12, 13, and 14 are not located in White Post but in Boyce, some 5 miles away--a distance I would not to drive in the dark after dinner since I am not familiar with the roads in this area. But there are 11 very nice accommodations where you can eat and drink well and walk to your bedroom. This combination makes L'Auberge Provençale a winner. We would definitely return.
