“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

We stayed at the lovely Cross House Garden Inn while visiting our son at JMU. It was so much nicer to stay at this bed and breakfast than one of the overpriced hotels in Harrisonburg during family weekend. Dana and Dennis are warm and wonderful hosts. The house is beautiful, the homemade breakfasts delicious, and our room and bed were heavenly. We chose the "Room with a View", it was spacious and beautifully decorated. Although this room did not have a private bath, the large bathroom across the hall was ours alone to use. We would love to stay here again when we travel to this area.

My daughter and I had the opportunity to take a last minute get away trip and were unable to find a last minute flight so we decided to venture forth closer to home. It couldn't have been a better choice. We arrived on Wednesday 10/24 - a bit too early for check-in - met Dana and Brin and went off to a delightful wine tasting at Cross Keys Vineyards nearby. Upon return to the Inn we were shown to the Garden Room which was lovely complete with a very comfortable king sized bed, well appointed bathroom, comfy chairs, fluffy towels, robes - oh my - cannot say enough good about it. We felt like we were at home rather than in a bed and breakfast.
The Inn is in an excellent location between Harrisonburg and Staunton and there is lots to do in and around the whole area. Don't miss the White Oak Lavender Farm and the vineyard and also Grand Caverns in Grottoes..

The best part of the experience were Dana, Dennis and wiggle/waggle Brin. They are so welcoming, so friendly and so comfortable to be around. They made all guests feel very much at home and also comfortable with one another. We were a varied group from Virginia, Pennsylvania and Texas. And, let's not leave out the delightful and varied breakfasts! French toast with ciinnamon raisin syrup; apple egg souffle; a southwest egg dish, yogurt with fruit and granola, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juices. Every day was different and delicious.

One of the reasons we chose Cross House was because we didn't see one negative review. Now we know why. Thank you Dana, Dennis & Brin. We will look for any excuse to return!

Room Tip: While our stay in the Garden Room (seond floor) was delightful, all the rooms looked lovely and comf...

We were in the Harrisonburg area to visit our niece at JMU. This Inn sits in a perfect location a few miles from the campus in a very quiet, lovely area of Weyers Cave. It is a beautiful Inn that is very relaxing as soon as you step through the doors. Breakfast was served beautifully and was very delicious. The rooms are all lovely and Dana adds a nice touch with lavender soaps and shampoos from the neighboring lavender farm. We really enjoyed our stay.

Cross House Garden Inn is a delighful B&B offering very comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast. The "inn pup" (Brin) is one of the friendliest dogs you will ever meet. The hosts are very accommodating and we will certainly stay there again when we are in the area. If you are looking for something to do in the Weyers Cave area (since there is no actual Weyers Cave to explore!), there is a nice vineyard just up the road and a unique lavendar farm, too.

Bruce....you and "Ms J" need to come back...Brin has been very sad since your departure! She doesn't take "goodbyes" very well :{ You must return soon! We certainly enjoyed your company and are looking forward to a repeat do-over. Dennis and I hope that we made you feel comfortable, but most of all, we hope that you felt comfortable and relaxed. God has been so good to us! We cannot say enough about the enjoyment each and every person who has visited us has brought to our home! Thank you for sharing our blessings and we really would like to see you again!

God Bless.....

From the time we arrived to the time we left, Dana made us feel like we were part of her family. Enjoyed talking with Dana about family, and experiences. Our every need was taken care of. Breakfasts were delicous. Close to Massanutten so we were able to use facilities during the day and relax and enjoy our room at night. Looking forward to returning again.

It was such a pleasure to share our home with Karen & Greg. Just when I think we already had the "perfect" couple visit, along comes their twins. When I say that we are sent awesome people, I mean we are sent AWESOME people! When you can meet someone at your front door and feel as if you were meeting family, you know you're about to make another new friend. Even though it is only for a short visit, we hope that at least some will remain in touch. It would certainly be great if everyone could, but knowing that probability is a long shot, we will be honored to retain any and all. Such wonderful guests are B &B'ers!! Fun...personable...easy going and HELPFUL to say the least! They make this adventure of ours one not to pass up! Thank you friends! Thank you for such kind words. We hope to see you again!

Dana, Dennis and, of course....Brin!

We were only able to stay one night but from the time we walked in the door, Dana and Dennis were there making us feel welcomed. Very clean and comfortable accomodations. I got up in the morning and had a cup of their rasberry coffe and carried it out next to the koi pond and sat and enjoyed nature before coming back in to an absolutely delicious breakfast prepared by Dennis. We sat around the breakfast table for an hour just chatting like family before heading off.
Definitely a place we hope to be able to come back to as we were afforded the opportunity to meet our new friends Dana and Dennis.

So many kind people....So many kind words! Life can't get much better than being an Innkeeper, especially with guests such as we have! We are learning with every new friend what it takes to be a good innkeeper. So, to our guests we owe a big Thank You! And in the words of our latest friends....it sure did feel "like family!!" Thanks for your visit...short but welcoming and enjoyed!

Hope you come back for a longer stay!

We had been planning a short trip to VA wine country for awhile, but our hectic schedules coupled with spotty weather kept us from committing in advance. We even purchased a Livingsocial deal to Bear Meadow Lodge, and when they were unable to accommodate our dates-we began to think our trip wasn't going to happen this fall. Well as things turned out we saw a small window of opportunity yesterday and took off. No reservations, no real plan, just a lot of Tripadvisor and online research. After we got into the area, I phoned Dana on the chance she might have a room. Normally they require a two night minimum, but the website said to call and check just in case...well as luck would have it, there were two rooms available and we grabbed one -the Dogwood room. Dana told us to go on and enjoy the winery, she'd check us in when we got there. Interestingly enough, we met another couple from Maryland who had booked at the last moment and taken the last room while at the tasting room!

Dennis met us in the garden and he and his wife Dana welcomed us into the parlor and gave us a short history of their Inn. The hosts were very personable and offered dinner recommendations in both Harrisonburg and Staunton (about 15 min each). We discussed breakfast timing, special dietary concerns, offered coffee, tea and cookies and shown to our rooms. We had the opportunity to see both the Dogwood room and the Garden Room. Both had crisp, clean Victorian decor, en room baths, lace canopies and a wonder scent that reminded me of childhood visits to my grandmother's. I later found out that all bath amenities were supplied by a nearby business, The Lavender Farm. The Garden Room (king bed)overlooks the garden while the Dogwood room (queen bed overlooks the fields and mountains nearby.

The room was comfortable, not soundproof though. Bed was a pillow top, there were high ceilings, crown moulding, setee, antique washstand, hand quilted blanket, small tv, pocket doors led to the bathroom. Dana had placed granola bars and magazines as well as various thematic books and novels around for the guests to enjoy. We slept well.

Breakfast was waiting for us when we arrived downstairs. Coffee and tea was self serve. Dennis greeted us and brought us breakfast course by course. Today's offering was a berry/granola yogurt parfait followed by an entree of apple/pear soufflé served with bacon and asparagus spears. Our breakfast companions who had eaten the day before said Dana had made a French toast dish with homemade sauce that was divine. After everyone was served, Dana sat and visited with us while we ate.

At one point we walked through the garden area. There is a koi pond as well as various heirloom rose bushes, box woods and many other plants. There are tables with umbrellas if you choose to enjoy a glass of wine or a meal out there.

The Inn pup, Brin (Brindle) seemed happy to meet all the new people and behaved well-even though Dana is nursing a shoulder repair compliments of Brin;-)

Checkout was a breeze and we all walked out together to exchange hugs (girls) and goodbyes. Would we return? Yep, sure would. In the words of the Dos XX guy, I don't always choose to stay in a B&B, but if I do in VA, it will be at the Cross House Garden Inn.

Room Tip: Only four rooms available-choose downstairs room if you have mobility concerns.

Well, we would like to say "Thank You" for such a generous write-up! I don't know why we have been so blessed to have had all the best travelers throughout the Shenandoah Valley region. However, I am certainly not going to question it...I'm just going to say, we appreciate you and hope you become a "regular" here at Cross House Garden Inn. It was quite enjoyable having you here and getting to know a brief minute of your lives. Now, you'll have to come back to fill in a lot of the blanks we didn't get to complete! Seriously, we thank you for your decision to stay with us and we hope to see you back again. Here comes the guilt....Brin was very sad after you left so you must come back to cheer her up....lol! Looking forward to your next visit!
