“Felt like family”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We were only able to stay one night but from the time we walked in the door, Dana and Dennis were there making us feel welcomed. Very clean and comfortable accomodations. I got up in the morning and had a cup of their rasberry coffe and carried it out next to the koi pond and sat and enjoyed nature before coming back in to an absolutely delicious breakfast prepared by Dennis. We sat around the breakfast table for an hour just chatting like family before heading off.
Definitely a place we hope to be able to come back to as we were afforded the opportunity to meet our new friends Dana and Dennis.

So many kind people....So many kind words! Life can't get much better than being an Innkeeper, especially with guests such as we have! We are learning with every new friend what it takes to be a good innkeeper. So, to our guests we owe a big Thank You! And in the words of our latest friends....it sure did feel "like family!!" Thanks for your visit...short but welcoming and enjoyed!

Hope you come back for a longer stay!

We had been planning a short trip to VA wine country for awhile, but our hectic schedules coupled with spotty weather kept us from committing in advance. We even purchased a Livingsocial deal to Bear Meadow Lodge, and when they were unable to accommodate our dates-we began to think our trip wasn't going to happen this fall. Well as things turned out we saw a small window of opportunity yesterday and took off. No reservations, no real plan, just a lot of Tripadvisor and online research. After we got into the area, I phoned Dana on the chance she might have a room. Normally they require a two night minimum, but the website said to call and check just in case...well as luck would have it, there were two rooms available and we grabbed one -the Dogwood room. Dana told us to go on and enjoy the winery, she'd check us in when we got there. Interestingly enough, we met another couple from Maryland who had booked at the last moment and taken the last room while at the tasting room!

Dennis met us in the garden and he and his wife Dana welcomed us into the parlor and gave us a short history of their Inn. The hosts were very personable and offered dinner recommendations in both Harrisonburg and Staunton (about 15 min each). We discussed breakfast timing, special dietary concerns, offered coffee, tea and cookies and shown to our rooms. We had the opportunity to see both the Dogwood room and the Garden Room. Both had crisp, clean Victorian decor, en room baths, lace canopies and a wonder scent that reminded me of childhood visits to my grandmother's. I later found out that all bath amenities were supplied by a nearby business, The Lavender Farm. The Garden Room (king bed)overlooks the garden while the Dogwood room (queen bed overlooks the fields and mountains nearby.

The room was comfortable, not soundproof though. Bed was a pillow top, there were high ceilings, crown moulding, setee, antique washstand, hand quilted blanket, small tv, pocket doors led to the bathroom. Dana had placed granola bars and magazines as well as various thematic books and novels around for the guests to enjoy. We slept well.

Breakfast was waiting for us when we arrived downstairs. Coffee and tea was self serve. Dennis greeted us and brought us breakfast course by course. Today's offering was a berry/granola yogurt parfait followed by an entree of apple/pear soufflé served with bacon and asparagus spears. Our breakfast companions who had eaten the day before said Dana had made a French toast dish with homemade sauce that was divine. After everyone was served, Dana sat and visited with us while we ate.

At one point we walked through the garden area. There is a koi pond as well as various heirloom rose bushes, box woods and many other plants. There are tables with umbrellas if you choose to enjoy a glass of wine or a meal out there.

The Inn pup, Brin (Brindle) seemed happy to meet all the new people and behaved well-even though Dana is nursing a shoulder repair compliments of Brin;-)

Checkout was a breeze and we all walked out together to exchange hugs (girls) and goodbyes. Would we return? Yep, sure would. In the words of the Dos XX guy, I don't always choose to stay in a B&B, but if I do in VA, it will be at the Cross House Garden Inn.

Room Tip: Only four rooms available-choose downstairs room if you have mobility concerns.

Well, we would like to say "Thank You" for such a generous write-up! I don't know why we have been so blessed to have had all the best travelers throughout the Shenandoah Valley region. However, I am certainly not going to question it...I'm just going to say, we appreciate you and hope you become a "regular" here at Cross House Garden Inn. It was quite enjoyable having you here and getting to know a brief minute of your lives. Now, you'll have to come back to fill in a lot of the blanks we didn't get to complete! Seriously, we thank you for your decision to stay with us and we hope to see you back again. Here comes the guilt....Brin was very sad after you left so you must come back to cheer her up....lol! Looking forward to your next visit!

My huband and I stayed here for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Dana and Dennis were very welcoming from the moment we pulled in. Making sure all of our needs were met without hesitation. They were very knowledgeable of the area and gave great suggestions of places to visit while there. The Lavender Farm is a MUST see. I have suggested Cross House Garden Inn to 4 married couples since Ive been. I look forward to our next visit.
Thank you for such a great experience.

The house is absolutely beautiful and very comfortable. I will recommend this bed and breakfast to all our friends and family. We look forward to returning real soon. Such kind words can only be spoken by kind people!

This being the first "season" for Cross House Garden Inn, and our first at being "Innkeepers," has proven to be very rewarding. Rewarding not from a monetary standpoint, but from the standpoint that one can actually share a breakfast or two with strangers while having good conversations and call it "work!" No business attire, no impressing clients, just being one's self even in PJ's. We call it...making new friends! We only hope that our guests leave feeling the same!

Thanks to all our wonderful guests and their kind remarks! We hope to see you back soon.

Our two night stay at the Cross House Garden Inn was one of the best stays that we have ever experienced at a Bed and Breakfast. Dana and Dennis, the Innkeepers, were most accommodating and friendly - We have never felt more at home anywhere! From the rooms, to breakfast to toiletries - all was most superior!

A definite hideaway for relaxation and fun - Just a couple miles from White Oak Lavender Farm, also a must see.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and clean.

First, we want to thank our guests for their very kind words. We can only say that God provides us with the home to share and the people to share it with. Hence, the title "Innkeepers." We have been so blessed by having folks, such as yourselfs, to visit and share the Valley with us. It makes our work easy and entertaining! We feel we never welcome strangers into our home, only new friends. So, thanks for stopping in and can't wait to see you back soon!

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Cross House Garden Inn and had a simply lovely time. Dana and Dennis are wonderful, freindly people and they thought of every detail to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. Our room was so pretty and comfortable; the house is charming and immaculate; the gardens beautiful and evolving; and the breakfasts were delicious and unique.

Cross House is very well located - half way between Staunton and Harrisonburg, so we were able to visit both on alternate days and return back to Cross House each night via a quiet drive into the county.

We look forward to returning again soon.

Room Tip: Check the predicted night time temperatures. If they are comfortable, sleep with the windows open to...

Our appreciation goes to our guests who have been so gracious as to take time to express their feelings in regards to their experience here at Cross House Garden Inn. We have been so truly blessed with the opportunity to be the "Innkeepers" of all God's beautiful gifts here at Cross House, which includes the wonderful new friends who have shared our home. The phrase "paying it forward" has a new meaning to me now and to see just a bit of what that translates to others shows me, this is exactly what I am put here to do. It has been a win-win situation for me...our guests have brought such warmth and friendship and I have had the pleasure of meeting nothing but interesting people with varying interests. By our guests reviews, we are able to make improvements to accommodate the needs of our guests. Every guest is unique and every effort will be made to make your stay a "pay it forward" event! Thank you Friends!
