On a very rainy night, after having been up since 5 AM, flying across the country, and sitting in I-95 traffic for 6 hours in what should have been a 3 hour trip, we could take no more of it and sought shelter at the only hotel within 20 miles. My husband and I have an ongoing battle about hotels. For him, the seedier the better. He has some strange fascination with the old time motor lodges and begs to stay at them whenever we travel. The Four Seasons is more my style, but we usually compromise on something in between.
The Washington Burgess is a motor lodge. You park your car right outside your room. The property is clean and well maintained, with a vending and ice machine, and a small outdoor pool. The room itself is exactly like you see on tv shows where the fugitives hide out, but it, too, was very clean, with just about everything you need for an overnight stay. The bed was big with lots of pillows and a shiny red bedspread, a tad soft for my taste but perfectly comfortable. The bathroom had nice towels and good water pressure in the shower. All in all, this place was a very good find, especially with a 7-11 down the street that sells wine. If we ever find ourselves stranded in West Point, VA again, we will come back.
