“Good value”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

Initially was very disappointed, The whole reason we stayed here over the other spots were because of the pool, spa, sauna area to relax in after hiking. First thing when we walked through the door there was a sign that read "Pool area closed". Apparently the 'winter vortex" cause the pipes to burst so the whole area was closed. There was no notice on the website and not a posting to warn of the outage. The manager stated that "all of the area hotels had some kind of damage from the storm, theirs just happened to be in the pool area". He could not give me a date it would be fixed, just that it would "take while". That being said, the front desk was friendly and helpful. The king room and bathroom was clean and nice sized. The breakfast included eggs, sausage, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, and the other standard hotel breakfast fare. We appreciated the protein choices. We would stay here again once the pool area is fixed.

Pleasant, clean room, comfortable bed, but ... pillows too soft, heating reluctant to provide heat after 9.00pm, hot water in bathroom barely look warm at 7.20am. Good breakfast, however, and plenty of car parking spaces.

Room Tip: Room 101 quiet, except for rather noisy refridgerator motor.

As expected, everything was the usual high level of Holiday Inn Express service and experience, except for one thing; the bottom sheet on the bed was badly pilled; it was like sleeping on sandpaper. Someone needs to do some quality control in this property. By the time we found the problem (going to bed late at night), it was too late to do anything about it. Other than that, great stay, great location, price, etc.

Hubby and I stayed here two nights. We had not made advance reservations, so we had to change rooms after the first night. The staff not only made sure that our luggage and belongings were placed in the new room, but found a pair of shoes we missed and had those waiting for us. The A/C did not cool as much as we like, but we told them when we left. The first room was handicap accessible but the closet rod is so close to the floor that anything full length drags on the floor. Had some difficulty getting the internet on the morning of day two. But when we called the desk and told them that the desk chair in second room was broken, the young man brought the front desk chair to replace it....outstanding staff and service. Did not use the pool and did not eat the breakfast. But will definitely stay here again in the future.

The hotel is in a nice location in Waynesboro near lots of restaurants and shopping options. Both check-in and check-out went smoothly. I arrived early at the hotel and was provided early check-in for all three of my rooms. The employees were very outgoing and willing to help. I was provided with suggestions and directions.

ROOMS (108/109/121)

The rooms contained typical amenities. In the room was a king bed, a pull-out couch, jacuzzi tub, desk and chair, dresser, coffee table, hair dryer, coffee maker, iron and board, mini fridge, and microwave. There was a sufficient amount of electrical plugs. The heat/ac unit also worked very well. In room 108 the curtain did not close all the way to the wall and light came thru the window right to the bed as the head of the bed was by the window; the light made it a little hard to sleep. The BIG problem and only major one encountered, was the fact that on a Saturday morning there was no hot water at 8:30 AM. My fiance and I were in town with our parents trying out the hotel and the area because are wedding will be in the the area in the future. There was no hot water in room 108. We went across the hall to 109; no hot water. We went down the hall to 121; no hot water. If there is not going to be sufficient hot water on a Saturday morning...the same day there will need to be for our wedding when our guests will be getting ready, there is going to be a major problem. If this hotel does not fix this problem, I will ensure all my guests book elsewhere.

BREAKFAST

The breakfast, which is included in the stay with the hotel, is actually very good. There was eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, waffles, bagels/muffins/breads, yogurt, cereals, and coffee and juices. Everyone was pleased with the variety of the breakfast.

GYM

The gym was very simple and below average but it was better than nothing. There was 2 treadmills, 2 bikes, and 1 elliptical. The gym hours are 6:30 AM to 11 PM.

BUSINESS CENTER

There was a business center, but I did not use it. I saw 2 computers that were available.

The rooms were clean with lots of pillows, firm beds, and microwave and mini-fridge. The shower head is big with good pressure and has a nice curved curtain rod. Large vanity. We paid 4 dollars extra for a suite which was very large but had no table and only an office chair at the desk. The suite does have a pull-out couch and a stuffed chair. All nice and clean. Breakfast was good with pancakes, eggs, etc.

The worst thing was getting a room for 4 days and not being able to swim!! The pool is freezing! No one was ever swimming the whole time we were there. There was a sign on the pool door saying they are not heating it as much now that it was off-season (76 degrees). It might as well have been an outdoor pool if you can only use it in the summer.

Another problem was the thin walls. When someone uses the water next door, there is a high pitched whining sound that is terrible! You can also hear their tv. The ice machine on the third floor was not working for 3-4 days, even tho the front desk knows about the problem...

Waynesboro didn't do it for us and the fact that the hotel was right out of town was initially a downer. In fairness, the Outback Steakhouse next door was a reasonable option for some good steaks.
I booked an Executive suite so at least the room was very large and gave us plenty of room. The staff were fine, not exceptional but not indifferent either. The breakfast staff were good.
The bed was very comfortable, the shower excellent and the included breakfast more than adequate. It included scrambled egg, sausages, biscuits and mushroom sauce. There was also the option of yoghurts, cereals, cakes, bagels etc and the quality was good.
Parking was easy despite the fact that the hotel was fully booked on the Saturday night. the wifi was variable and I couldn't work out why they change the password at midnight meaning that if you want to do some early morning work you had to find the night Receptionist to get the new password. Why can't it change at midday so that newly checked in guests for one night don't have a problem and existing guests can just pick the new password up during the day at their convenience.
All in all, this was a value for money hotel in an out of town position providing good accommodation. I wouldn't rush back but it served the purpose and looked to be amongst the best options in Waynesboro.

Room Tip: Pay the bit extra and go for an executive suite if you want the space. I am glad we did.
