The Gay Street Inn is located on a side street in the small town of Washington, Virginia. They are walking distance to the Inn at Little Washington. The hosts are Kevin and Jay who are friendly and accommodating. We spent 2 nights at the Inn and were very pleased. The breakfasts were terrific. Service was exemplary. I had asked for special assistance with a picnic and an early breakfast and both were arranged. Emails were answered promptly and the hosts are seriously interested in your comfort. I have chronic back pain and found the mattress excruciatingly hard and Kevin made sure blankets were placed under the sheets to soften it for me. My only issues were the mattress and the vibration of the window when the room above us had people moving around. There are no TVs or WiFi so if you cannot part from these amenities try a gradual withdrawal before your stay.

The Gay Street Inn is a fabulous place to stay! The hospitality was top-notch, ambiance was relaxing and soothing, and location was convenient, especially if you're planning to eat at the Inn at Little Washington. Kevin was a charming host-- providing port and chocolate, sharing stories about how he came to live in "little" Washington, recommending local wineries and shops to visit, and even (miraculously!) removing a red wine stain from a white dress shirt. The breakfast was generous and delicious, and was perfectly in keeping with the homey feel of the inn. I am looking forward to a return trip soon, and absolutely recommend a night on Gay Street to anyone seeking a relaxing weekend in the country, even if your plans don't include the Inn at Little Washington.

Kevin and Jay continue to operate one of Virginia's very best inns. Over the past several years my wife and I have been their guests on numerous occasions. If such is possible, they improve with each visit. Highly recommended!

We recently chose to have a staycation, take a week off and take short, overnight trips in the area. We live in the Rappahannock County area and had always wanted to try this B&B. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish - the champagne and yummy snacks that met us upon our arrival and the warm fire place in the living room upon our return from dinner with a class of port and more homemade snacks. The decor and comfort in the bedroom were outstanding. Plus, they have one dog friendly suite which allowed us to take our pet with us instead of having to put him in a kennel. A real treat - they did not charge extra for the pet.

We were able to walk several short blocks from the Gay Street Inn to our dinner reservation at the Inn at Little Washington where we enjoyed celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary with a spectacular dinner. After our dinner, we had an easy walk back to our room at the Gay Street Inn through the historic town of Washington, Virginia. It was great to park the car and not have to use it for the entire stay.

The Gay Street Inn breakfast was a delicious way to start our day: fresh fruit, muffins, coffee, juice, broiled grapefruit, corn meal pancakes with cranberry/butter/maple syrup and perfectly cooked bacon. The breakfast area is a bright, sunlit room with several tables that encourage conversation between guests or allow privacy, whatever is desired.

The Innkeepers know the area and go out of their way to help you find what/where/how to make your time spent in the area memorable. We wanted to go to Washington, DC to spend a few days and they were totally helpful in recommending hotels, restaurants and museums in that area.

We would heartily recommend this Inn to our friends and out of town guests.

Jay and Kevin are exactly the two people who should be running Bed and Breakfast accomodations. Our hosts had thought of every detail to make our 2 night stay utterly enjoyable - night lights, map quest directions, burning fire in the library, high quality linen, port and chocolates at night, wine bucket with ice which we enjoyed in their garden, complementary beer and wine, newspapers, phoning for restaurant reservations, tourist advice and more. Nothing was too much trouble for Jay and Kevin - they far surpassed the service and courtesy expected from a B&B. Oh and their breakfasts were creative and extremely tasty - my partner is still raving about their variation on French Toast!

We stayed in the Blue Room which was excellent (it's worth noting our room did not have TV or radio.)

I would highly recommend the charming, cosy and brilliantly serviced Gay Street Inn to anyone visiting Little Washington.

Little Washington is a lovely small place, although the dinining options (bar the dominant Inn at Little Washington) inside the town are limited. Infact there is only the basic Country Cafe which does basic meals well. Further afield the Thorton River Grill (10 mins drive and an excellent steak) and the Griffin Tavern (approx. 10 mins drive in the other direction and a place we encountered average food and poor service).

A day of visiting wineries was the highlight - make sure you visit Linden Vineyards - a gorgeous place.

The Inn is impeccably decorated and the Innkeepers are wonderful. Kevin and Jay recommended an excellent local grille (Thornton Street Grille) and helped us secure a last minute reservation. We highly recommend this spot to anyone. BTW - the guests at the hotel were from newlyweds up to 30 years of marriage, so the appeal is to a wide age range!
