We have stayed at the Foster Harris House on three occasions and each time it was wonderful. Diane and John are exceptional hosts who do everything possible to make your time with them enjoyable and memorable. John is an amazing chef and the breakfast he and Diane served was second only to the meal we had the night before at the Inn at Little Washington. We will be back.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Medow and Compton rooms and loved both.

Bonnie and I returned to the Foster Harris house with our good friends who we had encouraged to come along. We had a phenomenal time and truly enjoyed every aspect of the trip including the other guests. The biggest problem we have is the fact that it is a long drive from Philadelphia to get there. We gladly make the trip. Need I say more?

My wife and I stayed a weekend for their "Tour d'Epicure" Wine and Bike Tour. Our stay was nothing short of awesome! First, the owners Diane and John are fantastic. They see to every detail, and take care of you from the time you arrive until well after you have left. The room (Compton Room) was great, awesome bathroom and rain shower. The food, snacks, and beverages that John and Diane prepared were excellent. John prepared four course breakfasts every morning with freshly made scones. We had two mornings to enjoy, and both meals were outstanding. Part of stay included the wine tour and bike ride. Again, every detail was thought of. Fantastic scenery, wine, and could not ask for a better place to ride. John and Diane had great support for the ride (van, food, water, snacks) so regardless of biking experience; the tour is tailorable to your desire to or ability to ride. Bring your own road bike or use one that John will fit to you. You can hammer out 20 miles with John an ex-pro or you can cruise and enjoy the best scenery around.

Easily the best people, service, and luxurious stay my wife and I have had. We would highly recommend to anyone who likes great food and B&B. We hope to stay again

This was our second stay here - last time was in spring 2011 - and we remembered why we loved the place so much. The breakfast was even better than last time. It started with yogurt parfait with fresh fruit and homemade granola. Next up were cherry coconut scones. The coconut added a crunchy texture that was delicious. The piece de resistance was the main course: poached eggs on a puff pastry with a scrumptious sauce and a side of avocado, tomato and peach salsa garnished with cilantro. What I love about these breakfasts is the way flavors are combined to unexpected delight. Peaches in a salsa? Wonderful! The ending was lemon tart with a side of fresh mint from their garden - again, an unexpected culinary delight.

We stayed in the Compton Room on 2nd floor, which is comfortably sized and tastefully decorated. Love the rainshower faucet in the bathroom. The only negative to the room is we could hear the loud noise of water running at times, but this wasn't a big deal.

Free wifi in all the rooms and free use of the phone to make US calls is great, since most cell service doesn't work there.

Ten Things We Love About Foster Harris

A stay at Foster Harris House is a five-star experience, as attested to by others on this page. I would add only ten of the things Vivi-Anne and I loved:

1. Location, location: Foster Harris ("FH") is located in Little Washington,Virginia, In the rolling hills of Virginia near Shenandoah National Park. It is also the site of one of the best restaurants in the U.S. - The Inn at Little Washington. [See the FH website for particulars - the restaurant is walking distance from FH (truly).]

2. Getting there: One hour+ from DC, even closer from Dulles.

3. Bed and breakfast in a quaint, very comfortable, vintage house - in a small, but historical town. Great for walking and exploring.

4. Proprietors: You will find that this to be perhaps the best part of Foster Harris. John and Diane are hospitable to the extreme. They are constantly engaged in making things better - and they succeed.

5. Breakfast: Breakfast is superior. John and Diane serve what may be one the best breakfast you will ever have. They put their considerable talents together to produce this memorable event.

6. Web site: The website is beautiful and informative. Check out www.fosterharris.com.

7. Cookbook: Foster Harris has produced a world-class cookbook, complete with magnificent photos of the results of various Proprietors' recipes.

8. TV program. FH has produced a pilot series, In Seasons, that has been accepted by PBS. The pilot features John in the field farms, ranches, lakes, selecting various vegetables, meats, fish, fowl for breakfast and select dinners. You can view the pilot on the FH website.

9. Activities. FH also operates a highly regarded bicycle - gourmet restaurant tour. Check out Tour d'Epicure on the FH website.

10. Addiction. We are from San Francisco and have stayed at FH for the last seven years. It only gets better.

We stayed at the Foster Harris House for a family celebration. Family members occupied three different and lovely bedrooms. John and Diane were consummate hosts - very helpful in providing inforamtion on sights to see, things to do - we even played horse shoes on their property! We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast and will return for dinner and breakfast next time around. John leads bicycle tours around the beautiful country side and I have my sights set for arranging to partake in that activity! The Foster Harris House is not to be missed.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely. Please go on the Foster Harris website to see room slections.

We were so lucky to choose Foster Harris House for our very special 2 night stay to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door, Diane & John made us feel like we were at home. The Suite has the loveliest views over the beautiful mountains in the distance. Breakfast was a gourmet event -- not only delicious but beautifully presented. We so enjoyed relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, drinking our wine, playing with Stella (the delightful Lab), and basking in the quiet. Diane was so helpful, making perfect suggestions for how we could spend our days. Oh, we also ate at the fabulous Inn at Little Wahington! But we'd go back to Foster Harris even if the Inn at LW wasn't there.

Room Tip: We peaked in all the rooms & they are lovely. The Suite where we stayed is extra large with a lo...
