Ten Things We Love About Foster Harris

A stay at Foster Harris House is a five-star experience, as attested to by others on this page. I would add only ten of the things Vivi-Anne and I loved:

1. Location, location: Foster Harris ("FH") is located in Little Washington,Virginia, In the rolling hills of Virginia near Shenandoah National Park. It is also the site of one of the best restaurants in the U.S. - The Inn at Little Washington. [See the FH website for particulars - the restaurant is walking distance from FH (truly).]

2. Getting there: One hour+ from DC, even closer from Dulles.

3. Bed and breakfast in a quaint, very comfortable, vintage house - in a small, but historical town. Great for walking and exploring.

4. Proprietors: You will find that this to be perhaps the best part of Foster Harris. John and Diane are hospitable to the extreme. They are constantly engaged in making things better - and they succeed.

5. Breakfast: Breakfast is superior. John and Diane serve what may be one the best breakfast you will ever have. They put their considerable talents together to produce this memorable event.

6. Web site: The website is beautiful and informative. Check out www.fosterharris.com.

7. Cookbook: Foster Harris has produced a world-class cookbook, complete with magnificent photos of the results of various Proprietors' recipes.

8. TV program. FH has produced a pilot series, In Seasons, that has been accepted by PBS. The pilot features John in the field farms, ranches, lakes, selecting various vegetables, meats, fish, fowl for breakfast and select dinners. You can view the pilot on the FH website.

9. Activities. FH also operates a highly regarded bicycle - gourmet restaurant tour. Check out Tour d'Epicure on the FH website.

10. Addiction. We are from San Francisco and have stayed at FH for the last seven years. It only gets better.

We stayed at the Foster Harris House for a family celebration. Family members occupied three different and lovely bedrooms. John and Diane were consummate hosts - very helpful in providing inforamtion on sights to see, things to do - we even played horse shoes on their property! We enjoyed a fabulous breakfast and will return for dinner and breakfast next time around. John leads bicycle tours around the beautiful country side and I have my sights set for arranging to partake in that activity! The Foster Harris House is not to be missed.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely. Please go on the Foster Harris website to see room slections.

We were so lucky to choose Foster Harris House for our very special 2 night stay to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door, Diane & John made us feel like we were at home. The Suite has the loveliest views over the beautiful mountains in the distance. Breakfast was a gourmet event -- not only delicious but beautifully presented. We so enjoyed relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, drinking our wine, playing with Stella (the delightful Lab), and basking in the quiet. Diane was so helpful, making perfect suggestions for how we could spend our days. Oh, we also ate at the fabulous Inn at Little Wahington! But we'd go back to Foster Harris even if the Inn at LW wasn't there.

Room Tip: We peaked in all the rooms & they are lovely. The Suite where we stayed is extra large with a lo...

We just had an amazing weekend at the Foster Harris House with the Tour d'Epicure. We were celebrating a friend's 40th birthday and did the tour with a group of couples. The food, wine, and atmosphere were just perfect. Diane and John are so welcoming and even though the breakfasts they prepared were spectacular, they made it all seem effortless. We definitely recommend this to others either as a small group or a larger group of 10.

They have thought of every detail - including having bikes available for those who don't bring their own and having drinks ready for us as soon as we got home from our long ride. It was also great to learn some of the history of Washington VA and the Inn itself.

We will definitely be coming back!

We stayed at the Foster Harris House for their Tour D' Epicure biking weekend. John and Diane made every part of our stay there wonderful! You don't feel like a guest there, you feel like their old friends. Incredible hospitality and attention to detail! By far the best part is John's amazing breakfasts. I could eat there everyday! We stayed in the Suite which was charming and very comfortable. I am already thinking of when we can go back!

I thouroughly enjoyed our stay at Foster Harris House. It is a great spot for those who like a classy B&B without the pretense. You are made to feel comfortable and relaxed througout the visit. I loved all the thoughtful touches - access to water and juice at all times, coffee, tea brought upstairs early for self-service before breakfast, wine and beer for happy hour, chocolates and weather report hanging on the doornob for the evening, and a high quality delicious gourmet breakfast. It is a beautiful area with access to vinyards, mountains, and bike rides.

Generally I am not a big B&B fan, but we were having dinner at the inn at little Washington and that is really the only lodging option. Homey and updated are where I will start. Friendly, clean, honestly just well done. The owner/chef is quite an accomplished chef. We were td a PBS series will be out this fall with him as the host. What more cami say, you'd be a fool not to stay her
