Quaint country inn with breathtaking 360 degree views of the countryside. Gracious and friendly staff and well appointed rooms. Free homemade breakfast, either in your room or in the dining room, consisted of yogurt, granola, muffins and fruit.

We spent a glorious night at the Blue Rock Inn. Service and accomodations were outstanding, and the wallpapers in our room and in the private dining room to die for. I left my prescription dark glasses in our room, and staff not only found them but sent them to me--service above and beyond..

The Blue Rock Farmhouse was the ideal setting for our family Thanksgiving. The house is adjacent to the horse stables which creates picturesque views of horses and cows in the pastures. It's location is ideal for hiking, visiting one of the many wineries or just strolling through Little Washington. The house is perfect for a group of 10/12 with all bedrooms featuring an en suite. We all agreed we could not have chosen a better place to celebrate Thanksgiving.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay the Blue Rock. We found our room to be well sized, bed very comfortable. Think country manor house not New York Park Avenue. We can say without question dinner was a wonderful culinary journey of wines we would never thought to have tried; gastronomy prepared unique ways. Everything was spot on from the staff attentiveness to attention to detail.

While it rained most of our visit, we found no issue finding a comfortable chair in the lounge to read a book while staff worked to prepare dinner or tend to housekeeping. The best way I can describe the vibe of the Blue Rock was It kind of felt like thanksgiving at home where someone else was busy in the kitchen while you relaxed, and anticipation of your meal grew with every smell from the kitchen.

Since it was raining, we did not get a chance to enjoy the outdoor options but did find the bar well stocked and a bar man that knew what he was doing. We visited a local winery, of which there are many to choose from for a sampling, of some decent white wines and nothing red that we found drinkable. In our experience Virginia just doesn’t have the climate to produce great red wines. Although don’t tell the locals they think they are great. ;)

If you’re looking to have an “Inn at Little Washington” type meal without the theatrical undertones, there will be no mooing cow cart with cheese brought around at the Blue Rock, this is your place. If you are looking to experience well prepared food in a relaxed “Country Estate” type, feel then this is the place for you. Our only fear is Michelin will find this place, award them their first star and it will be too difficult to get a table gain for a “just because” weekend.

With our meal we were offered to do an upgraded wine paring, which we elected to do and was glad we did. We never thought of red wine from Lebanon as something to try, but there you go it was delicious. The best Foie gras dish we have ever had hands down worldwide from decades of dining at great places. We were also offered with our four-course tasting menu an option to include a truffle tart presented by the chef table side. Again, it was not a mistake to elect for this option simply outstanding.

We tend to be a couple that travels for dining experiences as our entertainment. Blue Rock is right up there with the best places we have visited. With a dining room of only about 50 seats if you can manage a weekend with them you will not be disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blue Rock. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly, the property and rooms are beautifully maintained and very clean. After a day of visiting the area wineries, we were not very hungry and ate outside on the patio enjoying the georgeous view. The Tasting Menu offers a wonderful variety. The food was delicious and I highly recommend the fried chicken for dinner (and breakfast) and the olive oil cake with fresh whipped cream and blueberries. The grounds are stunning and bucolic. The horses were grazing in a nearby field, the pond otters were playing and the setting was peaceful. The restaurants were busy in the evening but the staff was very attentive and worked as a team to make sure everyone was well served. The guestrooms and the entire property are so well appointed and has a fresh farmhouse chic feel. The rooms feel fresh and new. Our room was the Hawkins #4 with a king bed. Its design was soothing with beautiful wallpaper, quality bedding, a nespresso coffee machine and other small touches. I did get to see a few other rooms the next morning and each were stunning. Keep in mind the walls are thin, the stairs will creak, there will be noise from the outside, a bit of noise from a neighbors shower but nothing that would deter me from returning as soon as possible. (The main building was built in the 1800s as a farmhouse I believe.)
For additional fresh air, there were french doors to a cat walk that leads to a small sitting porch by the staircase down to the garden and lawn. Breakfast the next morning was an added bonus. I am so happy we chose to dine in the restaurant but you can choose to have breakfast in your guestroom or on the small porch. We were served a homemade breakfast with pastries, granola, yogurt and we opted to add on the cold fried chicken. We met the most wonderful staff member named Donna. She served us with so much warmth, told us the history of the Inn and was the best example of hospitality. It was a wonderful experience and I never felt rushed or hurried or ignored. The staff was so accomodating. I look forward to returning in the fall or sooner. It was an easy 50-minute drive from Northern VA. Thank you Amber, Donna, Justin, Glenn and all the dedicated staff.
