My family was in Warrenton for a wedding and we had tons of time to kill. The options were Applebees or Ruby Tuesdays. I found it hard to believe there wasnt anywhere else to go. I checked foursquare and this was the top recommendation. Thankfully it was 1045 and they opened at 11. So three car loads of loud northerners headed into old town Warrenton. This place was amazing. They gave us our own room in the basement of the conjoined restaurant Brick...which is theirs as well. the server was great, the beers were great, food was insane and very reasonably priced. Fairly good selection of craft brews as well. My cousin also reported the Margheritas were stellar. One word of caution, some of the lunchmeat sandwhiches are HUGE and could easily be split amongst two people. Over all it was definitely a great alternative to the ole chain restaurants right off the highway. We stayed at the Hampton Inn and this is only 5 or so minutes down the road. Keep up the good work.

We recently had lunch at the Black Bear Bistro. The menu had a variety of foods. And the food was excellent. The taste was great and the presentation was perfect. However, the service was horrible. It took 30 minutes for our chicken sandwiches to arrive. There was no feedback/apology from the waitress. It took about 10 minutes for our fountain sodas to arrive and the waitress was overall not attentive. It was very disappointing.

We just arrived in Warrenton for a conference after a 25 hours flight. Normally you end up at a place for something quick and convenient at such a moment, but the hospitable hotel-lady told us to try the Black Bear Bistro in downtown Warrenton.
Happy we made the effort to take our jet-lag to the Black Bear! Great, healthy tasty food!

We had a tomato soup, which had a rich, generous taste and a nice 'potage' thickness . Every bite screamed 'Healthy!', after which your taste buds whispered 'and tasty....'.

The hummus had a good zest to it. Hummus can be a bit boring, but it wasn't. Good consistency and zest, right amount of oil and fresh veggies to dip.

The short ribs were very nice. The ribs having the right softness / tenderness and coming with a good sauce to bring out the meatiness. Well-balanced with the fresh cooked spinach on steamed rice. I'm used to short ribs often coming with potato mash, making the dish overly heavy. This was the right combination!

The cook also made us a 'Depressed strawberry', a combination of blue- / strawberry. Got it? :-)

If it's not on the menu - like the depressed strawberry - just ask the cook! He's very accommodating and happy to creatively suit your culinary needs. We will surely be coming back! Our taste buds demand it.

One note; I'm very much a visual person and the pictures on the Black Bear site of the food do not always do it justice! It looks and tastes so much better than the pictures on the site. Just so you know.

Had an early dinner here. And, wow!! The food was awesome. I had the arugula pizza (which is served from the pizza menu from the adjoining restaurant) and my son had the Peppy's Pasta. Both dishes were so excellent. I had an excellent Cosmopolitan - clearly the bartender knows how to mix a drink properly! Ranked one notch down because the service was slow and we had to go to the bar to ask for a condiment and another drink. And this was despite the fact that we were dining early. But our server and the bartender were both lovely and otherwise engaging (they might consider staffing up a bit). One other note - the menu online was not the same menu we received at our table. Not a complaint, just different than expected.

I'd read that the food was good, service no so much. While we were there (lunch on Mother's Day), had great service at our table (server = Amy). Also saw servers and manager go the extra mile at other tables to ensure everyone's needs were met.
I had the Reuben sandwich. It was fantastic.
