“Okay Hotel -- Great Location for Restaurants and Shopping”
Reviewed March 8, 2009

We stayed in the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center this past weekend. The Westin is the tallest building in Virginia, which is sort of cool. It is located in the middle of a very new, created downtown, with upscale chain restaurants and shops. There are many places to walk to for dinner, or for a drink and to people watch. The hotel lobby is nice, and modern. Check in was not very pleasant, the clerk was distant and irritable. We had booked a corner room with special amenities. Once we checked our room we realized we did not have a corner room, and were missing many of the promised items. We had to ask to be moved, and the front desk was unnecessarily difficult. The bathroom was not as clean as it should have been. There was active mold in the bathroom, and OPH (other people's hair). There was something horribly wrong with the water pipes which made a very loud, screeching noise when you ran the hot water. We had fun, anyway. I would recommend the hotel for anyone who wanted to be near the Sandler Center (it is across the street) or wanted to be in this particular area of Virginia Beach.

The Westin hotels are always great stays and this was no exception. We were in the area to see Williamsburg as well as visit a relative, so we stayed here for one night. When we checked in everyone was very friendly. When we got to the room, however, we noticed the pipes were really loud and the carpet was damp. They sent someone up right away and told us we could change rooms. We did, but asked for the same layout (corner room). We got that, with an even better view!

The room was large and beautiful. The bed and bath, of course, were "heavenly." The lobby was very well decorated and trendy.

The hotel is in the middle of a new shopping and restaurant district, which is itself in an odd, older, rundown neighborhood. The weather was bad, so being close to all the restaurants was great. We ate at the McCormick and Schmidts across the way, but there is also PF Changs and several other restaurants nearby.
Overall a great, albeit short, stay!

I stayed at the Westin for 2 nights on business.
Overall a very nice hotel. Rooms nicely decorated with flat screen HD televisions. The only complaint here is no TV program guide, only a channel listing.
Bed very comfortable, lots of pillows.

No free internet. They charge to use the business center and it's $10 to access the internet in the room.(not wireless).
Did not use the gym/pool.
Great location, many restaurants/shopping across street, Bravo Cucina was excellent Italian.
Parking was free in garage.

Restaurant was good but pricey as usual. Waiter was very slow, I saw two guests come in for breakfast and leave after no one showed up at their table within a few minutes. Starbucks coffee in large thermos', but not free. I recommend bringing your paper cups from the room for coffee to-go.

No fridge or microwave, but then again, this is the Westin.
Price was good (that's why I chose this hotel), maybe higher in the summer.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights when in town for a wedding. The hotel was very very nice with a beautiful lobby and comfortable rooms. The location is great in that it's within a town center with some great restaurants and shops. The only downside would be if you wanted to be close to the beach. It is about 15-20mins away. For what we wanted it for though, it was perfect.

  • Liked — Loved the modern, clean interior and walking distance to restaurants
  • Disliked — Not close to the beach

Great location. I've stayed here three times in the past couple months. No effort by staff during any of my visits to make stay pleasant or comfortable. Mini bars are in the room, but staff do not ask if you would like a key during check-in, and will not bring you one if you request it. Also was charged for items I did not used. No newspapers, no "emergency" toothbrushes, no one who answers the phones (once you've checked in) has any interest in helping. I would love to see this facility spend some effort on staff training, because its location is very good. Sadly unfortunately average.

This place is absolutely amazing. The decor is gorgeous with a waterfall and glass staircase as soon as you walk in. The rooms don't disappoint with the signature Westin style... Luxury beds and the shower my friends and I didn't ever want to get out of. It's got a pool and hot tub which it seems like a lot of people don't use at least when we were there and a huge workout room with all the equipment you can imagine a hotel having. The people working there are really friendly and there to do whatever you need. Finding the parking garage the first time is a little difficult so call ahead for directions unless you want to pay for valet which is $20/day. The parking garage is usually packed so if you get there late at night you'll be struggling for a spot. This place was in my top 3 hotels I've ever stayed at and if you can afford to price tag a night, I would go.

  • Liked — The rooms for sure...
  • Disliked — Having to pay for internet when you're paying so much a night seems a little excessive.

Folks, I have stayed at every major new hotel in Hampton Roads - the Embassy Suites Hampton, the aloft in Chesapeake, the Sheraton VA Beach, the Hilton VA Beach, etc.

THIS is the best bar-none, the staff is fantastic, the physical plant is well-maintained with great decor. I travel all over the world, stay at many hotels and this is undoubtedly the BEST Westin I have stayed at.

Even if you are in VA Beach for a beach vacation, I would seriously give consideration to staying here. Yes, the beach is not right outside your door but you are not paying an arm and leg in high season and it is the best.

  • Liked — All-round quality
  • Disliked — Virginia Beach Town Center is weak, ghost town
