“Wonderful Resort at the beach”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

I cannot find anything bad to say about this resort. We found it to be very clean, The staff very helpful ( I had an issue with my phone, and they helped me get a new phone shipped to the resort) There were a lot of people there...It was August at the beach!!! Expect people. The resort is right on the beach, Oceanfront rooms have balconies, City view rooms do not. You can get complimentary chairs on the beach till they run out. The parking is across the street, and the first car is free. It is $7/night for a second car (find better priced parking at any beach). The rooms are wonderfully appointed, and very comfortable.. Flat Screened Televisions in the living rooms and each bedroom. Kitchen is well equipped. The pools and resturant are small and crowded...It was August at the beach after all. If you do not want the crowds... Go to the beach in January! IMHO if you have aproblem with this resort...You probably should stay home!!

Great accomodations! It makes for a simple and easy vacation. We stayed in a suite with 2 little kids and were able to cook every meal. We traveled from the pool to the beach and back to the pool again. For 5 days we rarely left the hotel property. SO RELAXING! The second time was just my husband and I, and things were just as easy (more relaxing without the kids). Both times everything was very clean and staff was very helpful and friendly...and having spent years in the hospitality business I can be very picky. We are returning next month and again next summer!

We stayed as a family - with our 5yr old daughter. We had room 1412A - a queen roomed apartment, living room with sofa bed, kitchen, dining room. Small balcony overlooking the beach. Accommodation was v nice. Staff were v friendly. We were asked briefly if we were interested in a time share presentation, but after a "no thanks" from us we weren't bothered again. Parking was in a garage across the street at $7 p night. WiFi was charged at $4.95 p night. The Tiki Bar downstairs was ok if sandwiches, wraps paninis are what you're after. They were tasty but the menu was limited. However a very nice outdoor seating area/bar with firepit. The beach was lovely and groomed. Umbrellas/loungers for a fee. Quite large waves but our 5 yr old managed just fine as the water was quite shallow. All in all a good stay.

Just returned from a fantastic family vacation in Virginia Beach. The entire town is very family friendly with great restaurants, entertainment, and a safe, friendly atmosphere.

This was my sixth trip to this city, but first time at Ocean Beach Club. I've scoured this city, and nothing is better. How Ocean Key Resort and the Belvedere surpass this place in ratings is one of the world's great mysteries - they aren't even in the same league. Other comparable accommodations are Founder's Inn (gorgeous, but poorly located), Turtle Cay (same league, but not on the beach), and the Hilton - just as attractive, but a hotel rather than a condo. The Cavalier is very interesting, but I found it just plain spooky.

The Ocean Beach Club location is perfect. Right on the beach. Shops are right out the back. All four pools are beautiful and clean. The grounds are the prettiest on the beach (though for gardens nobody beats the Founder's Inn). Our accommodations were clean, attractive, and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. The drinks at the Tiki Bar were fantastic, though kind of pricey. The meals at Tortugas were good.

If you're used to a five diamond resort in Naples or West Palm Beach, then sure, Ocean Beach Club is a little off that level. But there is absolutely nothing better in Virginia Beach.

Room Tip: All rooms are good, but ask for a ocean view.

My family just returned after a five day stay and this is the first time that I am writing a review. It's really unfortunate that the review couldn't be a four out of five because based on the amenities alone it deserves it.

The Pros: The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The pools are very nice even if the outdoor pool is rather small. The adult only pool and whirlpool located in the Oceanaire resort is exceptionally nice. The service that we received from most everyone was very cordial and friendly. The location on the beach is excellent because it is far removed from the busiest parts of the strip which actually provides for a more relaxed environment.

The Cons: The hotel is not well maintained. Once you get passed the lobby and pool areas the other floors are not cleaned regularly. The main floor we were on only appeared to be vacuumed once the entire week. There was garbage in the garbage can by the elevator that stayed there for three days. Most importantly, the rooms are never cleaned properly and sometimes not cleaned at all. Even when speaking directly to the people cleaning and telling them when we would be away so that they could clean and receiving their assurances that it would be done, it was not done... When the room was cleaned, it was not done well. The carpets were not vacuumed once when we were there. The counters were not wiped at all. They only made the beds and cleaned the bathroom. What is so challenging about that was that since this is a beach hotel, you get a lot of sand that tracks back to the room. This makes it even more important to vacuum daily. We could feel the sand on our feet constantly. One day we came back and there was actual sand on a table that was just left there (the sand was from the bottom of a beach bag that was removed). One last thing... The bedspreads and bed covers are not up to snuff. They are clearly in need of being replaced. We had a bedsped that was pilling all over and asked for a new one. The new one was delivered hot from the dryer but it was just as pilled. We used it because we knew it was just cleaned but it's not appropriate. I travel extensively and the quality of cleanliness is way better at a Hilton Garden Inn or a Courtyard Marriott.

I don't want to give the impression that the hotel is terrible because it is not. It is a nice property with good amenities. It is just beyond me how a hotel that charges these rates can accept this level of cleanliness. I read a lot of reviews before booking the trip and saw a lot of complaints about this but decided to book anyways. A warning to fellow travelers to stay on top of them every day and to work through the reception manager to get what you require. We did have one manager who was very helpful in setting things right to a point but the problems remain. A few small changes here would turn this into a legitimate five star resort. Based on the number of complaints and the lack of responses from the hotel it is clearly not a priority.

We just returned from a weeks stay at the resort and had a great time.
Our family of five stayed in a 2 bedroom city view, which was very clean
and spacious. The lack of a balcony was disappointing- I do like to get fresh air and we were on the 15th floor. I tried to upgrade the room but
since they were booked solid we had no luck getting a better view.
Overall the resort feels very upscale- new and tropical decor. The staff
was friendly and helpful, including the front desk and porters that were
always waiting to assist you out front.
The pools were a bit small for the size of the hotel- but very pretty. The
restaurant onsite seemed very busy- I only tried the bar one night.
Other reviews have noted the pools are shaded by lunch time- this is
not a problem to me but maybe a rooftop pools would have been a good additon for those seeking sun.
Overall this is a very nice place to visit with a great location and we would return.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a view if it's important to you. The 2 bedroom lockout may not be ideal for s...

Our family stayed here for 5 nights and overall we were pleased. We own another timeshare, however were invited here to do the "3-hour Gilligan's tour" sales pitch to buy into the new OceanAire. We were put into a 1 bedroom for 4 people. If I return here, I will definitely request a 2-bdroom. My husband and I ended up on the pullout couch, which was really uncomfortable. The kitchen is a great perk as we ended up eating two meals/day in the room and saving some money also. We did not have a balcony and our room faced the street, so no great ocean view, but it was not that important to us. The one negative comment that I have is the check-in process. We arrived at the resort at 12PM and were told that our room was not ready. No big deal...we went to lunch and bought our groceries. We came back at 4pm..no one had called. Later to find out that they did not ask for our phone number, nor did they have this from the paperwork. Overall our trip was positive as we made it that way!!

Room Tip: request a room larger than you really need...pullout sofa is NOT comfortable
