“a piece of history”

Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum
Ranked #33 of 135 things to do in Virginia Beach
Attraction details
Reviewed August 1, 2013

This is one of the few pieces of history that remain along the Virginia Beach boardwalk (near 11th Street). The museum is very quaint. It's a nice place to stop to find some shade and enjoy carved birds. They have a small gift shop with a nicer selection of items than the souvenir shops along Atlantic Avenue.

I was intrigued by all the carved birds here - really a neat talent! My children just couldn't get past why anyone would spend time carving wooden ducks so I think they missed the point. There was a nice man carving ducks and told my girls about how talented women carvers are. I thought he was sweet and talked to them a lot.

It is right on the beach so stop by if you have an extra 15 minutes.

This is a little museum about ducks and duck hunting. If you have a chance stop in and take a look. I gave a small donation but it is not required in order to visit.

Had a great discussion with one of the carvers - very interesting to see the work that goes into turning a block of wood into a life-like Wood Duck. Lots of examples of decoys and carvings. A new upstairs exhibit displays items from Virginia Beach going back to the late 1800's. Very interesting to see photos of what used to be along the boardwalk.

this was a wonderful museum to visit. they had a man carving duck decoys and he was very informative. this was an old house that was on the beach prior to all of the high rise hotels and they have a lot of wonderful photographs of the family and their life. they are opening a new exhibit room shortly, - can't wait to visit again.
