I get to Virginia Beach once a year on business and Hot Tuna was recommended to me by one of the locals. In previous years, we had gone to Lynnhaven Fish House, a very fine restaurant. The atmosphere at Hot Tuna is pretty casual with 80's music playing in the background. Although it's near the water, don't expect a view of anything but the parking lot. The dining area is separated from the bar which is a big plus for me.
We started of with a cup of the She Crab soup and it was outstanding. They offered sherry on the side but the soup is so good it doesn't need it.
For our main courses, I had the yellowfin tuna sandwich and my wife had the crabcake sandwich. Both were delicately cooked and top notch. In short, the food at Hot Tuna was terrific.
Unfortunately, the service was not. I'm guessing we had a waitress in training because she appeared nervous and messed up in several ways. There was a 15-minute delay in bringing our soup because our server forgot. Then she brought the wrong order for my wife. Finally, without any pre-notification, we recieved an extra charge for a side order that we thought was replacing one of the standard side orders. This service was the only damper on an otherwise pleasant experience.
