“Waterfront Virginia Beach”

Good seafood away from the crowded boardwalk area. Watch the sunset, boats, and sometimes live music. Good seafood at reasonable price.

“Nice for long visit”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

It had been ten years since we visited with our friends; consequently we wanted a restaurant that would allow us to visit for an extended time and served seafood. Since we were unfamiliar with the area our friends recommended the Dockside. It is both a market (more then seafood) and a marina, but they also have a outside deck with a wonderful sunset-yes, it's on the water.
Our service was perfect. Our waitress, Maddy, was attentive, yet not to pushy, knowing when to appear at the table to provide care and when to leave us alone to visit. We were a group of six, which always requires extra effort and she did a great job. The food was plentiful and the steamed veggies were wonderful, but the seafood just wasn't that good.
However, considering the sunset, view of the Bay, the service and the fact that a good portion of the food was tasty, I'll give the Dockside another chance. I hope they do better the second go around.

“"This is Our Second Review in 4 Years"”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

We have always enjoyed patronizing this restaurant over the years. It is by far, one of our favorites based on its perfect location to Lynnhaven Bay and its absolutely awesome seafood offerings. The plate presentations that come out of the kitchen are gorgeous and very generous. We try and get to Dockside at least once a month, because we love their seafood. The restaurant is very laidback and somewhat rustic in appearance on the inside. There is a full bar located to the left of the dining area as you walk in from the attached seafood market. There are outside tables on the deck over the water for those wishing to dine alfresco. There are only 2 discrepancies that I wish to bring to light with hopes that the owner will take action in the near future.
The windows are always in need of a good washing. I mean who wants to sit next to a filthy window to look out onto the water. Flies! There are more flies then people! The wait staff has to go through the door adjacent to the bar to take food and drink to the outside patrons. That is when the flies have an open entrance to the restaurant. There has got to be a device or chemical treatment available that can prevent or at least try to eradicate this nasty, on-going issue.
There was a very young hostess on duty last week when we had lunch here. She had on a nice black skirt with a pretty white blouse that had a "tie" in the back in place of buttons. Her back was somewhat exposed to the patrons (which was fine), but to top it off, she was not wearing any top under garment. So basically, she was giving the male dining members a bit of a thrill which I felt was inappropriate for a family style restaurant. Management obviously didn't give a damn how she dressed for work. My guess is, she was a relative of the owner/manager.
However, if you can overlook the aforementioned baloney, you cannot beat the food here for the money. Enjoy!

“Fresh seafood, water views”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

This is a combination fresh-fish market and restaurant. It has a very casual atmosphere with outdoor seating right on the water (not the open ocean, just an inlet, but still nice) and air-conditioned indoor seating as well. The seafood served in the restaurant is fresh and delicious. Try their "Blackened Tuna" for a really interesting and tasty experience. The service was friendly and prompt, considering how packed the place was.

“Good Seafood at a Slow Pace”
Reviewed August 3, 2014

Dockside is somewhat rustic waterfront restaurant a bit off the beaten path. Our party of six found the food to be very good; the service, however, was quite slow. There are several different dining areas spread out within the restaurant which may account for that. Our party of six approved of all the dishes ordered; of special note were the Spinach and Artichoke Crab Dip appetizer, the Dockside Fresh Catch (there is a large selection of wonderfully fresh fish to choose from -- in this case, the tuna was excellent), and the Crab Cakes (lots of tasty crab). A bonus was the sunset sky during dinner. Overall, I'd give this a thumbs up if you are not in a rush.
