“Casual but nice and delicious!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

My husband I I enjoyed a date night here recently and were very pleased with the food. He enjoyed the prime rib special and I had a wonderful, fresh salad. I did notice they offer a kid's menu also. The atmosphere is casual, but very nice, almost like an upscale diner. =) The kitchen is open, which I like. My only complaint was the hostess...we arrived at 5:30 but had to wait about 6 minutes before we were noticed or seated. I also saw another group seated, but never waited on. They left after about 10 minutes. So overall, the food was very good, the service was good, it just must have been an off for the hostesses. Definitely worth a try!

“A Comfortable, Locals Kinda Place”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Atlas is a staple along Great Neck Rd for the after-church crowd, folks looking for a quick sit-down lunch, and our local retired community . The restaurant offers a comfortable, casual dining area that serves limited choices of (sort of) upscale, down-home food, plus a small separate bar area with TVs, bar food and plenty of beer for Sunday game days. Daily lunch and dinner specials are featured, which highlight their "home cookin" offerings. Hungry for home-made meatloaf? Or maybe chicken pot pie? If you prefer sandwiches and salads, their everyday menu has a good selection of both. Plus I've found their soups to be one of their best daily menu items: the She-crab is good but a little salty for me, they always have a Soup-of-the-Day that's good, and their fresh-made Beef Chili and Cheese is thick and meaty, and has a nice little kick. We've also always been impressed with the Atlas waitstaff, who are mostly very friendly and competent 20-somethings, all past the silliness of HS but not yet settled into the (sometimes) complacency of middle-aged servers. Atlas prices are about on par with Ruby Tuesday, and maybe a little higher than Chili's.

We used to have a number of these comfortable sit-down, limited menu, locals-type places along Great Neck Rd, but they've been mostly replaced now by units of small themed chain restaurants, the occasional attempt at finer dining, and pizza and fast food. Atlas is one of the last that really makes an effort to attract the locals --- they offer a Local's Loyalty Card, and a 10% community discount is available at all times for local firefighters, police, teachers, city workers and senior citizens. Like a lot of its customers, we usually visit Atlas when we're more interested in a relaxing, conversation-filled basic meal with family and/or friends, rather than when we're searching out haute cuisine or five-star service. And, since that's what Atlas is trying to offer, we're always very satisfied with our visits.

“Not really sure what the big deal is”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

Atlas appears to be one of those places that everyone knows about, and everyone says that it's awesome. Maybe it used to be awesome, or maybe it was awesome when compared to the other options on this side of town, but I can't say either scenario is true anymore. The food is so-so. The pizza is definitely better than anything else they serve (salads and sandwiches are definitely sub par), but the pizza is just so expensive that it's hard to justify the visit. There are other Greek restaurants right around the corner now that serve much better Greek food... Atlas still has slightly better pizza, but, like I said, it's just so much money.

“Extensive menu, great friendly service.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

Love their extensive menu and their daily specials, eat there are least once or twice a month. Nice salads, soups and full meal menu options. Wait staff is extremely friendly and give great service without hovering. The fried shrimp or flounder dinners are very good, come with 2 sides and cornbread. They are on special lunch right now on Wednesday and Thursday. I often take clients there for lunch and all have enjoyed. The booths are very comfortable and you can carry on a conversation though they are usually very busy. Highly recommend.

“Not great, not bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012 via mobile

Not actually a diner as it is located in a shopping center on Great Neck Road and has a full service bar attached. They usually have a chalk board with 3 or 4 daily specials and they are best known for their hamburgers. The she crab soup is pretty good but ask them to leave out the Old Bay if you can't do spicy. The fried clams are good as are the fried shrimp. Some basic pasta dishes and salads offed variety. They have a decent section of sandwiches and service is attentive. Typical family style restaurant decor in the dining area with tile floors and wooden tables and chairs. The owner of Atlas Diner also owns Chick's and the 501Grill both well known to the locals and both more highly regarded for their cuisine than the Atlas.
