Over the years the Virginia Beach Boardwalk has evolved from a drab uninteresting place that was seedy to a first class boardwalk with good hotels and very good restaurants. The boardwalk is lighted at night and there are always people walking or riding on the boardwalk. The boardwalk has dedicated lanes for cyclists and bladers. During the season there is usually something scheduled every week. It is fun to attend concerts on the beach. Bring your own chair and refreshments and enjoy some good music-Pat Benetar, Grand Funk, Motown groups, etc. In addition to the large stage on the beach there are smaller stages and venues along the boardwalk for smaller concerts and attractions. Some of the big events are scheduled on Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th, Labor Day, and of course the Neptune festival during the entire month of September with a sand sculpturing castle that rivals all others. There are other events during the weeks between the main events. Yes the Virginia Beach Boardwalk is alive and kicking.
