Beautiful place, but beware, you can hear everything, which means your neighbors can hear you too. The walls are very thin, we ended up being beside a group of partying college kids that were loud and obnoxious from 12am - 3am, we could even hear people throwing up in the bathroom next door. Not a nice thing to hear - ended up calling security twice before things finally quieted down. Anyone from the outside can come to the hotel, easy access for a party as we found out.
As mentioned in other reviews, the walkways are loud and you hear everyone that walks, or totes a suticase down the walkway, very disturbing. Don't expect to get a good nights sleep.

My family had to come to VA Beach at last minute and chose to stay at the Turtle Cay resort. Although we are here in the off-season we are still very pleased with our stay. The local transit isn't servicing during the off-season. The kids and I wanted to visit the local aquarium (great place and it's hands-on). My husband had the car so getting there was a problem. The concierge offered to drive the kids and I to the aquarium in his personal vehicle. If this isn't accomodating and friendly I don't know what is.

Our family of 4 (kids are 9 & 12) stayed Fri-Sun night. Weather ended up being warm so we were able to go strolling on the beach and rode rental bikes up the boardwalk. The hotel across the street has a terrific Sunday buffet. As for the hotel...
Parking is underground with elevators and stairs up. We were placed on the ground floor and wished we were on the top floor since the units are made of wood, we heard the tennants above us. The staff was helpful and friendly. The pool was fun and heated, felt like I was in Phoenix area. There is no place around to get a bite to eat-no food on site. The fire place seemed to be dissabled. There could have been more linens and blankets. The room was spacious and clean.

My husband and I stayed here 11/3-4/07. This was our first time in VA Beach. The hotel is easy to find between the two main roads, Atlantic and Pacific, on the south end of the resort area. Check in was smooth. The parking garage is convenient except for having to use your room key to get in (although safe I suppose). We stayed in a studio (I guess) with two full sized beds. For about $100/ night (with AAA rate, plus taxes) it was a good deal, though I wish we could have checked out the suites. The room was spotless and updated. The small kitchenette was helpful, the ceramic tiles in the bathroom nice and the towels plentiful (although a bit thin!). It was a typical hotel room for the most part.

The downside: The rooms are motel style and ours overlooked the bay and, unfortunately, the rather busy Pacific Avenue. So outside our door was constant traffic. The road noise and the voices of the neighbors was pretty annoying. The walls are as thin as prevous reviewers have said. Our neighbor (only on one side thankfully) got in late the first night and then we spent the next hour or so trying to ignore their whispers so we could get back to sleep (yes, you could hear it all!). Also, if you go beware of the eathquakes. Ok, not really but the way the wood planks are arranged throughout the hallways (crossways) the sounds of the cleaning and luggage carts can be heard from a full minute away and sound much like an earthquake coming, or perhaps a 747 taking off directly above you.

Aside from the noise we thought it strange that there was no book/ binder/ letter or any type of info from the hotel offering ameneties they offer, when check in/ out is, pool hours, etc. We were left wondering about things the hotel may have offered. The pool by the way is as nice as the pictures on their website boast. It was too cold when we were there but the hot tubs probably would have been fun had we been brave enough to bare the winds resulting from Storm Noel.

Although off-season, there was not a lack of restaurants; though good ones aren't a dime a dozen. The one we favored most was Murphy's at Pacific and 30th. Great Irish Pub for any meal. We found ourselves comfy there from the start and so had two meals there during our short stay. Mary's was a supposed favorite among the locals, but not for us. Quick and cheap food is what you will get but don't expect high quality. The same goes for Il Giardino's on Atlantic, as far as quality. An Italian place, the food and drinks were over-priced and over-salted. The waiter was a pleasant older man (Bill). But we felt tricked into buying some special seasoned flatbread when we could have gotten regualr italian bread with the meal. Oh and if you want a salad it was another $4 or so.

The beach is beautiful, the Aqaurium a wonderful way to spend an afternoon (despite the work being done there, the exhibits are great), the atmosphere a typical east coast beach town.

We may go back to VA Beach during the high summer season with friends but only if we were garaunteed thicker walls for privacy (and warmer weather of course!). Turtle Cay is not a bad stay but it seems you can get competitive pricing elsewhere if you are looking for the typical hotel experience. Perhaps a stay in one of the suites makes the difference.

We stayed there Sep 15 - 23. We have been coming to VA Beach for about 15 years. This was our first stay at the Turtle Cay. We have stayed in quite a few different hotels along the beach during that time. You can't top the Turtle Cay. We had a one bedroom unit. There was plenty of room for 4 of us. The place was immaculate when we checked in. Everything you need was in the unit, all the typical kitchen appliances and utensils. it had a in-room washer and dryer, which made it easy to care for things like towels etc. Two TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. The fireplace was great but the weather was warm enough that you didn't need it. The week we were there was a bit off weather-wise. It was cloudy most of the week and very windy - not very good beach weather. The Turtle Cay is built with the units surrounding the block with the pools and hot tubs in the center - a perfect design for the week we had. Because the weather was not great for the beach, we spent a lot of time in the pools and hot tubs which were blocked from the strong winds. Many of the people that stayed at the beachfront hotels were not able to use the beach or their pools. We didn't miss out on anything. Our unit was on the third floor giving us a nice view of the pool area. It gave a nice homey feel to our stay. The staff was all helpful and addressed all of our needs promptly, always had a smile and made you feel welcome and appreciated. A couple of minor improvements that would be good are: highspeed internet in the rooms (only had dialup, Wifi was available in the lobby), I like a newspaper at the door in the morning (you had to go to the lobby to get one and sometimes they were all gone), designated no smoking units (ours had ashtrays in the room, but there was no telltale sign of smoking). Great place, we are coming back for sure.
