Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center
Ranked #76 of 109 Hotels in Virginia Beach
Reviewed October 18, 2012

The Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference center is a great place for business and special events. There’s plenty of meeting space and larger rooms for parties, and the guest rooms are spacious and comfortable. All rooms are suites (see attached photos) and offer a home-away-from home setting. All rooms also have beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay and the beach. The guest rooms were mostly clean but the carpet and furniture is very outdated and worn. The carpet in our room was very dirty and stained, and the sofa was worn and stained. The bath towels also had make-up stains on them but appeared to be clean and smelled clean. The chain lock on our balcony door was also broken, but the doorknob lock worked. The balcony was a nice size with clean outdoor furniture. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly and the parking garage had plentiful parking. We will stay here again, but do hope the management considers replacing the carpet in the rooms, the towels and the furniture soon. The rooms also need repairs such as peeling wall paper/paint and broken locks. Overall, this hotel offers a comfortable stay for an excellent price.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best views

Recently (September) I stayed at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Convention Center for a wedding. At all times throughout the weekend of the festivities the staff members of the Resort were very professional in the performance of their duties; they reflected great competence, and made the resort guests feel very welcome and special throughout the stay.

The Resort Hotel provided an excellent setting for a sunrise wedding ceremony; chairs and tables, ceremonial arch, and associated paraphernalia were well prepared and placed well before arrival of the guests on the special day, and were artistically decorated. The reception brunch was exceptionally prepared by their catering staff; the menu was ample and tasty; the room and tables were pleasingly decorated, providing a beautifully artful setting for the occasion. The dining staff treated the guests professionally and with a caring attitude.

Speaking of the staff, from the reception personnel to the dining staff, manager of the dining staff, and all employees encountered – the employees were exceptionally helpful in meeting requests and in providing extraordinary quality service; they made the guests feel welcome and special. The entire staff made our visit to the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel an immeasurably pleasurable stay.

This was our 3rd summer vacation spent at VA Beach Resort Hotel and Conference center and we will continue to go back for as long as we can. We love staying here, the staff is extremely friendly, the rooms are updated and clean. The "private" beach on the bay is perfect for when you do not feel like hanging out at the pool for the day. I also like that this small private beach on the bay is not as crowded as the beaches that are further down on the oceanfront... You get the best of both world's! This summer was the first time in 3 years that we took advantage of renting some of the various water sport activities! My sister in law and I rented paddle boards while my husband and son rented a kayak. We had a blast and the staff renting them out were more than happy to give a brief lesson and advice. I would have to say my favorite part of each day was sitting on the deck, with someone playing live music and sipping a cocktail as the sun went down over the bay, absolutely breathtaking!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms directly on the bay.

Had a great weekend staying at your resort. Good Job.
Had a problem at check in ( No need to go into it) but after going and talking with another clerk was handled in a very efficent professional manner and she cared about her job.

The general manager should go by and tell Joyce K thanks again , And I want all to know that you have a valued employee in her..
Will be back again next year

We paid $160 for one night - the condition of the room was more like what you'd find in a $69 motel down by the beach: Burn in the carpet, tiles cracked in the tub; TV Cable not connected because the outlet was smashed; sofa unbearably unconfortable to sit on and dirty. There was only warm water - no hot and no cold. Some mechancial equipment ran w/ a loud humming sound all night. No luggage carts or belhops in the lobby - they just stood and watched you struggle with your luggage. We have family right down the road but will NEVER return.

Room Tip: Don't go near the elevator or ice machine - we heard that all night as well. Best advice - stay...

This hotel is actually on the bay (not the ocean) so it's away from the Virginia Beach action. If you have a car it's about a 20 minute drive. We went into town a few nights to play mini golf (jungle and the pirate one- across the street from each other both nice, but i prefer the pirate one) and to go to the boardwalk for the amusement park rides (very small area but cute if you have little ones).

Stay away from the Wendy's by the Mini Golf- such slow service- worst i've ever seen in a fast food place. 40 minutes on line/waiting for food- ridiculous.

Anyway, the resort:

right on the bay, very easy to get a spot on the beach. you can rent kayaks and other water sport activities (plus chairs/umbrellas, etc). pool is nice- part indoor/part outdoor.

tradewinds restaurant- very yummy lunch/breakfast. not too expensive either.

rooms were clean and we liked the set-up. As soon as you walk in you have the 2 beds. there's a little hallway then the bathroom on the right and then the sofa, little table, sink, mini fridge- so it's almost like it's a 1 bedroom sort of. at least the sleeping area is separate which is good for a family because the kids were able to sleep while we could be in the other room watching tv.

overall, a good experience- we were there for a wedding so we got a really good rate- but regular price you are probably paying about 300 a night

Our location here on the beach at the Chesapeake Bay certainly is in a great centralized spot to enjoy all that the area has to offer. We’re glad that you stayed with us while attending a wedding reception and appreciate your feedback.

We bring our team to this hotel 2-3 times a season. The hotel staff is friendly and organized. So much so that checking in a squad of 24 athletes is as simple as walking up to the counter and receiving our keys. Our rooms are spacious and equipped to manage a light breakfast on game days. We are already looking forward to our return trip this October.
