There was only a small indoor pool, there was a nice pool attached to the hotel but this does not belong to hampton - it is marriotts pool. I thought for sure there would be an outdoor pool to layout by and enjoy the sounds and smell of the ocean. Bring your own stuff for the beach - towels, chairs, umbrellas. they rent chairs and umbrellas, but you could buy and ship home your own stuff for the price. The towels at the indoor pools are silly, they are like hand towels and won't even wrap around a small child. so if you are traveling by plane be prepared for the extra luggage b/c hampton doesn't provide what you need. breakfast was good everyday and as expected the breakfast area was always crowded at anytime of the morning. there are som many shopping and eating places on the boardwalk strip and atlantic avenue. the boardwalk is nice. the location of the hotel is good, but I think the Hampton North would be a better location. the ocean was nice, but cold - didn't expect that. water was 70 degrees in July. beach is nice and sand is soft. we picked hampton for the breakfast...would I do it again, yes but maybe the north location or I would try the marriott for the pool and pack or buy light breakfast from the grocery store (not too far).

This was our summer family vacation so we were all looking forward to what the beach and hotel had to offer. What we got from the hotel was utter dissapointment. We are hilton honors members and routinely stay at hilton properties when we travel. We paid $259/night for this hotel and for the pricepoint we were expecting the usual Hilton value for our money but were sadly mistaken. We chose this hotel because it advertised queen sized beds versus double beds to provide comfort as well as an ocean front south V.B. location.

To be fair I will give details for each area.

Parking - The propertry had its own parking deck which is great but it was very tight navigating and dangerous in going from one level to the next having blind turns and narrow ramps. The ramps seemed to barely have enough room fro two cars to pass but most drivers and I never attempted it and chose to reverse to the prior level and let the other driver pass before proceeding. Getting to the next level was hazardous as you could not see an oncoming car. Driving space between the two sides of parked cars was very narrow making pulling out of a space a difficult task if there were a large truck or car in the spot opposite you.

Lobby - if you call it one was nearly nonexistent with a very small area at the main entrance which was also difficult to determine it was a main entrance.

Front Desk experience - Staff was courteous and friendly but not very helpful. We requested in advance a early check-in, extra pillows, and a room on an upper story of the hotel. I also provided my new AAA membership number(two weeks before we arrived) and was told by main reservations that I would receive a 10% discount off of my bill from the original reservation. We arrived at noon and were not able to check-in until 3:00PM. We did not get our early check-in, did not get our extra pillows, did not get our room on an upper floor and at checkout received only a 5% discount on the room.

Breakfast Bar - Nice seating area over looking the beach, food was kept stocked by attentive staff and the area was kept clean for all. Food selection was typical deluxe continental breakfast with some hot food, muffins, toast, fruit, juices, etc. Issues here were the lack of cereal selection(three kinds - special K, raisen bran, and rice crispies) which I would not call main stream for families and children. Breakfast meat was different types of sausage for our entire weeks stay which was a dissapointment - no bacon.

Pool - when you have kids, the hotel pool is the place to let your kids discharge energy so you can regain some sanity. Granted you have the biggest pool of all in the ocean available to you but a fresh water pool is always desired. This pool was clean and well kept but calling it very samll is an understatement. The size of this pool was roughly 25'x25' and a rated max capacity of 11 people. In a resort area and the expected volume of children this pool size was an utter mistake.

Room - The room was clean and well kept but definately small for what we paid and nothing to really cheer about. Beds were not the queen beds that were advertised to us and were definately extra extra firm(my wife and daughter called them rocks). Bedding consisted of a sheet and a duvet with no blanket which served us but may not serve others well. Bathroom was average and well taken care of but the shower curtain was much to small and could not do its job well because of it. Balcony was narrow but enjoyable to sit out on a look at the ocean and the sunrise. Room temperature regulation was an adventure and it seemed as though the hotel put a minimum setting cealing on the thermostat because we could never get it to go below 68 degreees.

Many disappointments in this Hilton property and enough that I would not stay there again and would not recommend friends or family stay. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Marriott Springhill Suites next door. They had a very large pool, full breakfast with made to order items, and a room that was much larger and comfortable. I will be staying there next time I go to V.B.

Room Tip: There is allot of people traffic on the boardwalk at all hours and a room that is on a higher floor...

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments on your stay with us.
As you state you are a Hilton Honors member and frequent the Hilton Brand properties I am surprised by the bulk of your comments. To be clear, our hotel only offers rooms with 2 queen sized beds or 1 king sized bed, none of our rooms have smaller beds and all are the exact same bed and bedding you see in every Hampton Inn. Additionally, our hotel offers the same brand standard complementary hot breakfast selection that every Hampton Inn offers with a rotating menu.
That being said, I am happy to hear that our staff was able to accommodate your early check-in request checking you in before 4pm and also happy to hear that you received the proper discount for your AAA membership in a resort area.
I apologize that the hotel wasn’t able to meet you expectations but hope that you enjoy your future travels to Virginia Beach.
Happy Travels and Best Wishes!

First time in Virginia Beach and it was great. If you have a nice place to stay it makes the vacation even more enjoyable. Picking a place on line is a challenge enough, so we did well. The Hampton Inn Ocean Front South is clean, a walk to the ocean, cleaning staff was friendly and helpfull and it has a great resturant downstairs called the 11th street Taphouse. Plenty of beer choices, good food, friendly staff and happy hour from 3-7 everyday. If there would be any complaints it would be the wait for the elevators, there are two but they get crowded at certain times of the day. People with bikes, chairs, kids, coolers and anything else you can think of getting on and off the elevators, can't complain too much we had 3/4 of that at certain times. The pool is small but your there for the ocean. Sheets are clean, bathroom is clean, balconys give you a wonderful view of the beach up and down and Virginia Beach by itself is clean well lit and never mobbed. We were on the 7th floor but even with the slider open the noise level was never a problem outside. Hotel,Beach,Balcony,Food,Ocean...clean, what more can you ask for. Also ample parking in their parking garage.

Room Tip: Every room has a Balcony so thats covered. But if you don't need a room high up then request a r...

The room was fine- everything was clean. We didn't really have any problems, except that the pillows, I thought, were awful. They were like pancakes. You might want to take your own. Other than that, everything was fine. The best part obviously, was that every single room has a view of the ocean. We were on the 8th floor - AWSOME. This was my son's first trip to the ocean, so I was thrilled that we got on one of the higher floors. The breakfast buffet was typical of any free breakfast- standard offerings, and typical crowds. The pool was OK - a little on the small side. My thought is that is that if you picked up this hotel and moved it to any other city/location, it would simply be "OK" - nothing out of the ordinary. Clearly, the standout draw is (1) the location - right on the beach, and (2) guarenteed ocean view for every room. Other than that, everything else simply struck me as pretty much "average."

Room Tip: You definitely want to try to get a room on one of the higher floors for the ocean view. Also, only...

Got a king oceanfront room on the 6th floor. Check in took forever, arrived at 3pm and room was not available until 430pm. Room had a great view and nice balcony with chairs. Bed was somewhat comfortable. Small pool and parking garage is dangerous with very little space around turns for 1 car let alone 2 cars. Good location off of the boardwalk. Although was a good stay, will look for another hotel when I return next year.

Stayed one night upon arrival for a business trip. Checked in late (12:45 AM). Front desk help was great. Rooms was clean and breakfast was adequate. Housekeeping was very friendly and when we needed a late checkout (see 12:45 AM arrival above), we were accommodated with no issues. There were plenty of families with lots of noisy little kids in the breakfast area, but what do you expect?---It's July in Virginia Beach!
