“Worst Hotel EVER”
Reviewed April 7, 2010

The bedrooms are falling apart. The ceiling in the bathroom was warped and hanging down. The rooms are two double beds but are soooo crowded. Just too small for a family of four. The air conditioning would not work so we were up both nights just sweating. We called the maintenance man and he tried to fix it but then ended up telling us the entire hotel air system was turned off. Not a pleasant stay and we will NEVER stay there again, nor will the rest of the soccer team that we traveled with.

My husband & I stayed at the Sandcastle, and we found that our stay was very enjoyable. The customer service was excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the view of the ocean from the balcony was awsome. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs to get away for a little rest and relaxation.

We stayed for the weekend, we enjoyed the free continental breakfast, we took a dip in the pool. The service was excellent and we even used our AAA to get a discount on the cost of the room. We watched the sun come up in the morning from our balcony and enjoyed the oceanview from our balcony. It was a friendly atmosphere and everyone was accommodating. It was a great weekend and we will be staying here again in the fall.

Obviously an older hotel, but rooms were clean and beds were very comfortable. Parking deck, pool & sun deck were nice. Shops, breakfast bar, restaurants on ground floor were convienient and nice as well. I will definetely stay again.

It looks a bit dated on the outside, but we were pleasantly suprised by the room and amenities. It was off season when we went, but the stafff was excellent and the rooms were super clean.

I traveled with my 20 year old daughter and neither of us had been to the east coast before. We had a ocean front room for $69 a night. It was located right by the fisherman pier. The balcony offered a windbreak so we could soak up the sun from there. It was a little chilly down on the beach. But perfect weather for walking the boardwalk. We also rented bikes from the store just off the lobby. There were some spring break kids around but we barely noticed them. My only beef with the area is not all restaurants and shops were open for the season yet and it was hard to find a newspaper. They also had an indoor pool (which we didn't use) and continental breakfast which we did use.

The only thing this hotel has going for it it the oceanfront location. It is a very dated hotel. Rooms and hallways stank of a musty smell that felt like things hadn't been cleaned or changed in years. Doors from parking deck into main building did not shut. Doors to balcony did not latch properly, in fact the the "striker plate" to the door and jamb were missing so we felt like we might get locked onto the balcony if the door closed. Air conditioning units on outside wall were covered with plastic and duct tape. Cold wind still flowed in where tape was loose and gusted in at poorly sealed door. (Not exactly the way to enjoy the ocean breeze.) If you looked down across the outside balconies, you could see duct tape fluttering at different levels. Our room was a non smoking but there was a burn mark on the dresser and hallway trashcans at elevators had ashtrays as part of the design though they were unused. Like the carpet and other furnishings, the trashcans were probably "originals" from the time the hotel was built (1980 - but seemed more like the 50s - though the quality probably would have been better then. One website says it was renovated in 2004 but the only sign of that was the granite sink and shower lining. Otherwise, nothing obvious.) That website also quotes recent rates at $62, so hotel prob jacked rates knowing that it was a tournament weekend. I believe there was also a cheering competition that weekend.
Most ice machines were out of order, slow elevators.
We were there with a soccer team and a staff member allowed us to meet and eat in the conference room Sat morning, then that night when another staff member let us use it, about 6 adults and 7 kids were sitting and talking very quietly when the mgr came up and rudely told us to leave and that we need to pay for that room if we wanted to use it. She could have told us the same thing in a much more civil way. Our team members were very well behaved and had 10pm curfews set by the coach. There was nothing to warrant staff rudeness considering we brought them lots of $ for an offseason weekend. Paid about $125 per night w/ taxes which might seem reasonable for some but not for this dive. Motel 6 would have been a better choice.
The rooms are very small, someone can't stand in front of the sink while someone else opens the door to get past you into or out of the bathroom.
Hallway had indoor balconies toward center rooms that extended to all floors so sound echoed terribly and late at night.
Breakfast selection was adequate but the milk was not cold Sunday a.m.
Hotel charged first night of stay before we arrived and the second night of your stay when you arrived. I think they didn't want you to see what the accommodations were like before you paid so you wouldn't leave.
Room cleaning personnel were nice enough.
