Visiting Virginia Beach recently with my Thai family, and thanks to Trip Advisor’s reviews of local restaurants, we decided to try Tida Thai, 550 First Colonial Road, VA 23451. Among other things, we ordered Pad Woon Sen, Duck Pineapple, and Fried Whole Fish. We were quite impressed with the presentation and quantity of all the dishes ordered, which came in a relatively larger portion than those served in many other Thai restaurants, but at about the same or lower prices. In particular, the fish came in an XL size served with a separate bowl of tasty sauce. Yummy!
Personally, I was particularly pleased with the taste of each order, which did not taste sugary like those served in some other Thai restaurants. Well, we specifically insisted that we preferred our orders cooked by way of real Thai recipes; and, apparently, the chef—a Thai--took our request seriously. The décor and the relaxing, sweet Thai melody were enjoyable, and the restrooms were new and clean. The menu prices were relatively inexpensive--all things considered.
On the shortcoming side, for that evening there was only one waiter. At any rate, his polite demeanor and pleasing attitude actually offset any bit of inconvenience we would have experienced.
If you would like to try some authentic Thai food, I’d personally recommend this restaurant to you. You would walk away liking its foods or Thai hospitality, or both. Please do not blame me, though, if you have to disagree. Just blame its Thai owner, who was there and eager to listen to feedback, positive or otherwise. No wonder he had opened four other branches in the area. By the way, we were complete strangers to all those associated with Tida Thai and just wanted to encourage "Thai" restaurants operating in foreign lands to maintain the integrity of authentic Thai recipes.
