We were 3 families who travelled together from Canada for a week long stay!

We began the booking process in November 2011 and found it easy and convenient. There were a few hickups as we got closer to the date of our trip but the staff responded quickly and were able to alleviate all of our concerns.

Check in was smooth and easy. Within a few minutes of arriving the car was unloaded and the family was in the condo! We ate dinner at the poolside restaurant our first night.

The pools were spectacular...the beaches were fantastic.

The facilities were clean and we had no issues with anything.

LOVE it!!!!

Room Tip: The A block seems to be better than the B block!

Condo was really nice but pricey (although I have no idea of rental prices in Virginia Beach area). Pools were very nice, bbq was always available when we needed one and the fitness room was nice to have too. Great beach in front of the property and some nice waves. Everyone loved the stay.

We also stayed this past week and awoke to learn that our tent frame had been thrown into the ocean by a bunch of kids in the middle of the night. This account is from an eye-witness, Sanctuary's own security guard. Not only was the security guard aware of what happened (but chose to do nothing about it), it was reported directly to Mandy in office A. Other personnel were notified as well. It was 4 tents thrown into the ocean, not 1. Another 8 were picked up and toppled over (FYI - guests leave their tent frames out overnight all the time; that is very common). Some were ruined and others damaged. Finally, upon check-in Saturday 8/4/12, the central elevator in building A was out-of-service. It was not operational for several days. Families spend a lot of money for the Sanctuary experience. It would be nice if the management had our backs.

Room Tip: Ask ahead of time to have the cleaning crew pay close attention to the removal of spiders from the b...

Our family has vacationed here for the past 5 summers and witnessed the decline in this property and value. Unfortunate since we had in past considered purchasing here. Perhaps they need to consider a criminal background check for renters, and counsel their security guard, who witnessed vandalism on the beach this week, and chose to address it or even notify the local police. The elevators have NEVER worked when we have checked in, and the property is in need of a great deal of attention - maintenance is non-existent. The facility is not clean, and the spider problem remains an issue. Our family will be sad to say good-bye to Sandbridge Beach and to one of the penthouses at Sanctuary. We wish the owners and managers well - this could be an outstanding place to visit and live, if properly maintained and managed.

Room Tip: do not even consider until disrepair and management issues are addressed

We are truly sorry our guest had an unfortunate occurrence while staying at the Sanctuary, especially one that would eradicate the memories of four prior pleasant experiences. We strive to address any and all problems immediately when brought to our attention. We were quite surprised to read this review as we received no notification written or verbal to any Sanctuary Realty personnel regarding a problem within the unit or common elements of the property.

After further inquiries, we discovered that a pop gazebo tent that remained on the public beach overnight by this guest had unfortunately been placed in the water sometime during the evening. We do not recommend or condone leaving personal items on the beach during the overnight hours as the beach and any items that remain on the beach are open to public access while under local jurisdiction.

The condominiums contract security services during evening hours so the property remains monitored twenty four hours each day. Security officers consistently patrol the common areas throughout the premises and monitor the multiple video feeds to ensure the safety of both owners and guests.

With regard to the elevators, we checked with the property maintenance division and there were no reported issues with the elevators that may have caused a problem during this check in.

Being located by the beautiful Back Bay Wildlife Preserve presents a unique set of challenges. Through the programs of a reputable and recognized “green” local contractor the Sanctuary has become proactive in it approach to these seasonal changes.

Once again, we are truly sorry when any guest is disappointed and trust that in this case, the prior vacation experiences at the Sanctuary will shine through and we will see them again.

There's nothing better than breezing through the check-in process after a long day in traffic. Sanctuary Realty really nailed it this year: there's no waiting in line and you don't even have to leave the car. Check-out is also a breeze.
The specific amenities of each unit vary, but our penthouse was extremely well stocked, nicely furnished, with spectacular views. Was the unit pricey? Sure, but we felt like we received good value for what we spent, particularly during a peak summer week. As a previous reviewer noted, there are units without direct ocean view or pool view that are available for lower prices but with access to all of the pools, grills and a very short walk to the beach.
We've stayed at this property in the recent past but found the general level of upkeep and maintenance to have improved markedly relative to 2011, with the notable exception of an out-of-service elevator. We also found the staff to be friendlier and more hospitable relative to last year.

This is the part of Virginia Beach that I like best. Great for families -- secluded, quiet and refershingly peaceful. OBX-like atmosphere without being too far south. Far enough to be "on vacation" yet near enough to for those times you want "city amenities" that nearby groceries, restaurants and malls offer.

I've been to the Sanctuary a number of times, and while I have a beach family, I want to spend my funds on the family, not the beach. Sanctuary is already on the beach but there are several units that are priced 2-3 times that have partial bay and ocean views while an equally comparable if not better inside and back units. If I want to go to the beach, I would just be on the beach, not viewing it.

B-426 Welcome Home is one such unit. It's on the top floor in a quiet corner. It's a large condo with 3 bedrooms and I was pleasantly surprised with the amenities - HDTV in every room, cable tv, free internet, fully stocked kitchen replete with dinnerware, pots/pans, utensils including wine glasses; a balcony overlooking the pool; it's high enough and big enough that you actually feel a sense of airiness and unbridled freedom of space.

Sanctuary itself has three pools, one with a bar, a game room, 2 libraries, 2 gyms, hot tub and more I haven't had time to discover. Ofcourse, there's the beach, basektball hoops in the park beside, a pier where I could fish and a golf course minutes away (Hell's Point) which I enjoyed during my stay,

If you want accomodations on the beach, without paying oceanfront prices, a lot of room and lots to do, I would recommend booking at the Sanctuary. I would go back to B-426 especially for many summers to come.

Room Tip: B-426 Welcome Home
