just returned and I would love to go right back. very clean and nice people. the pools were all great, the indoor wave pool did have a lot of chlorine, but, there were a lot of people there. the weather was very high winds and rain. all of the rooms face the ocean, and very quite: I hardly heard the crying baby next door. I would rather have a room that was not above the bar, but, music level was down and off early at night. with the t.v. on it was not heard. I would suggest to go to pacific ave just one street over and there a places to eat not so pricey and there is refrig and microwave in room. aquarium was great and Zoo too, very nice. just look at the weather and plan the indoor and outdoor days.. if flying bring raft to blow up, easy to pack and good to lay on beach saves on renting chair, bring beach towel, small ones there.

Room Tip: higher rooms less noise from pool and bar, rooms all face the ocean in a u shape so back end of u an...

Had a business trip and stayed September 11-15. Wife and I stayed in room #142 which was a suite on the ground floor. Very nice clean room, beautiful view and great amenities. Lobby was very small, no store although they did sell limited snacks. Staff was very courteous and helpful. The hotel is on the north side of the beach area which is nice and quiet. Not much to do though. Only store around is 7-11. The hotel bar is good but beer is @$5.00 and premium drinks $8-10. The motel restaurant is good but expensive. Beach area in front of the hotel is excellent and not very crowded. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Had two issues: First the flat screen TV in the bedroom reception was not clear. The service repair responded immediately and fixed it. 30 minutes later the problem started again. Another call and the repairman returned and tried to fix it again. Next day it started again. I had enough and just left it at that point. The TV in the front room worked fine though. The next problem I had was the housecleaning staff did a so-so job. Re-stocked the towels, etc., but did not clean or vacuum the floor. Had sand on the carpet and did not clean up trash. Overall, a very good value and nice place to stay.

Room Tip: Ground floor was nice, chairs and lounge chairs for guest use.

We stayed August 23rd - August 26th. Travelled with my husband, 15 year old daughter and her friend. Our room was oceanfront and the hotel was steps to the beach. The refrigerator and microwave were a plus for heating leftovers from dining out and keeping drinks cold. The pools looked great, although we did not use them. The hotel employees were very friendly and helpful. We had 2 rooms, and the remote in one of the rooms did not work properly, but maintenance took care of it within minutes of being notified. I would recommend this hotel to young and old alike. I think it is especially kid-friendly. Has movies for the kids, a kids camp and 3 pools, plus the beach is right outside your doorstep! There are many places to rent bicycles along the boardwalk, which allows you to get in some excercise, or if you prefer running or walking, the boardwalk is well suited for that too. I must say though, that after while, the fighter jet noise can become annoying. If I return to Virginia Beach, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I recommend getting an oceanfront room if you can afford it.

We stayed September 11-13, which is off season, so it wasn't crowded at all. We had the best experience we have had at a Holiday Inn. Check in was easy, we got there early and the room wasn't ready but the kids got their wrist bands which got them free meals and use of the pools until our room was ready. The room was very clean and had everything we could ask for. Refrigerator and microwave were nice for snacks and drinks. The only thing that I would have liked was a room safe. You don't want to take your purse to the beach, but I also didn't want to leave it in the room. The kids camp was nice (especially the turtles) even though we weren't there long enough use it, the kids got to go in and look around. Also had 4 kid movies running each day in the theater, which would have been nice for rainy days.
The pools were wonderful. Outdoor and indoor lazy rivers. (Indoor lazy river was very heavy on the chlorine.) Outdoor slide pool. And a huge outdoor pool. Many times we were the only ones using them. All the pool areas were very clean. You are just steps from the ocean too.
I only have good things to say about the hotel employees. Everyone was friendly and polite. We can't wait to go back and say at this hotel again!

We are a family of 4 with 2 kids 10yr and 7 yr. We had such a great time that we were trying to go back again next month. Ideal location on the north beach. Peaceful, great pools for kids. Good onsite restaurant. The Kids Splash camp was great .. the camp personnel were pleasant and genuinely played with the kids and kept them busy.Great movie theater, we watched Toy Story 3 with kids - was fun. We were on the 7th floor with a great oceanfront view, watched dolphins early morning. Will be back next year...........

Room Tip: ocean front view is great

The main thing we loved about this hotel was that you really felt as though you were on a resort, even though we were on the Boardwalk. For our family, we needed downtime, and we got it here. The beach was a few steps away, the 3 pools on property were great, waterslides and lazy river were nice touches. The kids watched a movie in the theatre one night while we sat on our balcony and had a glass of wine. There was a refrigerator in the room which was great for us. I highly recommend this hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor. It is quieter and amazing views of the ocean!

Figured I would write this while I'm on the road back home. This was a great hotel if you have a family and don't plan on going far from the hotel. They had lots of stuff for kids. The rooms were clean but the lobby smelled like a locker room. The pools were ok but we didn't use them

We are a young couple without children. We like to be in the middle of everything. We either had to walk 1-2 miles to be in the action or take the trolly. If you want to be in the middle of everything and stay at a holiday inn I would go ocean side instead.

The elevators are slow. Luckily we had a room on the 2nd floor so we took the stairs all the time. One thing that I didn't see in any of the reviews was there is a 711 right across the street which was really convenient.
