“Disappointed”
Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

I am sad to say that our return trip to the doubletree in va beach was not a happy one. We had stayed here last year and were very pleased and were excited about our return once again this year. We stayed in room 630 from 7/8 to 7/13. I am actually writing this on our final night as we sit listening to the loud guests all around us due to the very thin walls of the hotel. I do want to make note that the staff are very friendly and were very responsive to all our concerns. However I believe the hotel is suffering from its age and some poor management.
Upon our arrival we were given room 630. The first thing we noticed was a continuous dripping from the bathroom shower. The shower also made a very bad vibrating noise when turned on. This could also be heard from other guests rooms. It sounds very much like a jack hammer. In fact I am listening to it now at 2 am as one of my fellow guests are getting a shower. Also the drain did not drain and had to be rigged in order to drain. Otherwise the tub filled with water. Our room smelled of mildew as well. On our first evening we were awakened by a noise at about 4:30 am. At first we didn't know hat it was and I went outside to check. Another guest informed me it was the fire alarm and that it was for real. We were told to evacuate and we got our 3 and 7 year old up and headed outside. Outside we waited as fire trucks arrived and firemen entered the building. After about 40 minutes we were told to enter the building by the firemen. At no time did any member of the hotel staff address what was going on. Also our room alarm never sounded. We had left our key in the room and had to go to the front desk to get it and informed the front guest attendant that our room alarm never sounded and had we not checked with our fellow guests we would have had no idea we needed to evacuate. This was the only time we encountered a rude individual as she told us she didn't know why it didnt.
The next day and every subseQuent day of our stay we never were provided fresh towels from housekeeping. Every single day our towels were taken but never replaced and we had to call to have new ones brought up. To the hotels credit besides the last day this was promptly handled. On our last night...tonight the 12th.....our room was not even cleaned. We then called and requested new towels and to have the room cleaned. The towels took 30 minutes to arrive causing us to be late for a dinner reservation. To the hotels credit the room was cleaned when we returned after dinner. This evening has been very loud and noisy between the showers of other guests to the thin walls and hearing loud voices. Currently for the 5th time I am being disturbed by the jack hammer sounds of my neighbor taking a shower.
On top of all the this the elevators have been a nightmare. Some days only one was operating. And the one operating was going at a snails pace. It is very disappointing to of had our second experience at the doubletree to have gone as it did. Most likely will be choosing a new hotel next year. Decided to stay an extra night and booked he ramada instead of another night here. It's a real shame.

Great Hotel. Enjoy the cookies, they are great. Staff is wonderful and the location is good. The hotel has a shuttle that takes you to the beach. Food at the restaurant is a little pricey though. The pool is ok, but the water temperature is perfect.

First of I am a Hilton honors member and this is hands down the most disappointed I have been with the Hilton chain. When we were driving to VA beach we called the hotel BC we were going to arrive early and wanted to see if our room was/ or could be ready since we have a two month old. When we arrived at 2 we were told it was not ready. No problem, so we came back at 3 the check in time and our room was still not ready. So we were switched into a room that was ready, why couldn't that have been done when I called or stopped in at 2? The receptionist was also very rude and unhelpful! Like other reviews the hotel elevator was awful. The first day I had to wait 25 minutes BC only one worked and I could not carry my baby and stroller down the stairs. The bathrooms were the worst I have seen. The tub wouldn't drain and the bathroom ceiling was gross and appeared to be falling down. Last time I stay at a double tree.

Room Tip: Pick a different hotel.

I very much apologize for the challenges you experienced. Our check-in time begins at 4pm and we try our best to allow guests to check-in early if we have rooms clean and ready. We are upgrading our elevators and this project will greatly improve their speed and efficiency. I will be reviewing your comments with our team to ensure we take appropriate action to improve.

We stayed at the Double Tree over the 4th of July weekend. When we checked in we originally had 2 days...the location and staff was so awesome (price too) we stayed until Friday.

First off this hotel is not on the beach, we were a little disappointed at first but was happy when we saw all the congestion the beach has...although the property is not on the beach they have a shuttle that runs every 30 minutes to the beach.

When we checked in (Laschae) was a great help, Not only did she upgrade our room she was able to extend our stay at a cheaper price than Priceline.

ALL the rooms and carpet have been renovated as of 7/1/2013, so all the reviews before this date won't work anymore! The rooms are very clean, the beds are the only thing that's hasn't been updated. The beds are comfortable, but not the greatest.

The hotel is in a perfect location especially if you don't want the congestion of the beach!!

When we return the double tree is a must stay!!

Hotel was clean, comfortable, and accomodating. The staff was friendly and helpful. A few details (unfinished wall outlets, and shower dripping into the bathroom) were dissapointing, considing the price of the room. But overall, a very nice hotel, and we would go back again.

We arrived at the hotel for my birthday weekend and the lobby was beautiful with ice cold fruit water as we walked in. We were early for our check in time so we were talked into a timeshare presentation which took 3.5 hours!! We received a nice soft and hot cookie at check in which was delicious. The Hotel had no base boards and you could see the wall paper separating from the floor and edge of the wall. It was an eye sore. The elevators were very slow, seriously slow, the wait time was a minimum of 5-7 minutes. That was just to get on once you were on that time became doubled due to stops and pick up at such a slow speed. So we spent lots of time in elevators. At one point I was tempted to walk up 11 flights of stairs to to be qiucker. Lots of noise, walls are thin and air planes would pass by and sound like we were outside on the runway the noise was so loud. Will not stay here again! Max & Ermas resturant has a great staff, the breakdast was not that good but lunch and dinner was great. The bar was also good and fixes really great drinks.

I was very sorry to see you were disappointed with your stay. We are in the process of "modernizing" our elevators which will greatly improve their speed and efficiency. We now have the baseboards installed on all floors and I do apologize that was not completed before your stay. The fighter jets from Naval Air Station Oceana can be loud regardless of where you stay in Virginia Beach. We call it the "sound of freedom". Happy to see you enjoyed Max & Erma's and our famous cookies. I do hope you will visit us again should your travels bring you back to the Virginia Beach area.
