“Wonderful stay. .. great location for peace and quiet”
Reviewed May 15, 2014

Choose this hotel for the location... it's about a mile from the boardwalk. .. was looking for peace and quiet AWAY from the partiers at Virginia beach. . This hotel did not disappoint... this staff was extremely friendly..especially jade.. and the room was on the 16th floor overlooking the ocean... ( we even saw the dolphins )the room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable with 6 pillows... there were a few "cosmetic"issues with the exterior of the building overlooking the pool area. .. but nothing that effected the inside or the stay here. .we will definitely be back and stay here again...p.s. get the French toast for breakfast it was Awesome !!!

To start off, arriving at night in a pitch black parking lot is pretty scary. I don't know if they just don't keep up the parking lot lights, or if they were broken, but I sure wasn't parking in the pitch black parking garage. Checking in was extremely slow with an extremely dry-personality front-desk person. On the outside there are chunks of the hotel missing...literally, a chunk out of the roof over the pool.
When arriving to our room (at night) we couldn't see a thing. Hallways are extremely dimly lit, and trays laying everywhere, very hot and muggy...and stinky. Opened the door and got hit in the face with a strong stench of feet...we had to open the patio door and let it air out. There are no lights in the room either. 3 tiny lamps and no ceiling light. The room looked completely different in the daylight...when we could actually see it. The room was on the small side for what it costs a night. The best part of the room was the view.
Dear Lord don't ask the front desk a question, because they will stare at you with blank stares and give you no answers. Calling downstairs for a room service menu was met with a rude answer of "well it should be in your book"...it wasn't. The girl in the little shop in the lobby (which is never ever open, even during the hours that it's supposed to be) was probably the rudest of all. Us buying 3 waters seemed to ruin her whole day based on her attitude. We were never greeted walking into the lobby, or leaving. No "how was your stay" or "how are you today"...no hospitality whatsoever. Our family member joined us the day after we checked in and was told to get a parking pass or he would be towed by the manager, but then after going to the front desk and asking for one was told "only one pass per room, you have to park somewhere else"...not to mention there was about 30 empty spaces outside. They really can't be bothered.

On another note, the restaurant has some of the nicest people I've ever met. They are actually too good to be associated with the hotel. Service was great, food was great, it was night and day compared to the front desk. And I told them so. They responded with "we have great managers here in the restaurant"...my response "how about you send one of them up to run the rest of the hotel". Also, the housekeeping staff are miles above the rest, always saying hello, and told us Happy Mother's Day on the way out.

The beach was nice, not a lot of people, and actually a very nice location. Quiet, away from the hustle and bustle.
Overall, not worth the money I paid to stay there. Disappointing. It was a Mother's Day/Birthday trip...

Room Tip: I would request a room in The Tower...otherwise I'd be a little scared at what I'd get.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Your comments regarding our staff are concerning, I apologize that they did not meet your expectations. We feel we have an extraordinary staff--as witnessed in many previous comments on this page.
You may not be aware, but, several weeks ago we had a severe Nor'easter storm blow through the area and we experienced winds of over 70 mph. As you can imagine, it caused some damage to our building. The "holes in the building" that you refereed to are a result of that storm and are in the process of repair.
Thank you for the great feedback on our restaurant.
Sincerely,
Christine Geist

This hotel has the WORST hotel management and personal I have ever seen...I think they all must be related...Never once did they acknowledge my presence... rooms are way overdue for a makeover..only good thing was the restaurant there....food and staff were awesome. Never will stay at Hotel again until management is changed...but will go back to restaurant...Also security sucks...no lights in parking garages or outside areas.

I appreciate your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront. I am concerned that you obviously had some issues while you were here that were not resolved. If you would like to contact me personally, I would be happy to assist you further.
Also, the exterior is extremely well lit as all exterior light are on on lighting sensors so I am not quite sure what you are referencing in your comments.

I just wanted to spread the word about our great experience with my daughter's wedding and reception at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront . Jane won us over with her personality and great customer service. She was always available to help us with any issues that occurred . The reception was well coordinated by the special event and kitchen staff. The food was outstanding. We have nothing but an all positive experience and would strongly recommend the Wyndham to not only a wedding/reception but just a relaxing vacation destination.

Room Tip: The suites very quiet and never heard a peep the weekend we were there.

My husband and I had a nice stay at the Wyndham for a friend's wedding. The hotel rooms are just okay, we got a special rate as wedding guests but I would not have paid the full price for the rooms here. Even the discounted rate was a little too much in my opinion. The hotel was built in 1980 and was apparently renovated in 2011, but the whole building definitely shows its age. I saw the standard double bed rooms, which were kind of dumpy looking and very small. The ocean view room we stayed in had a king size bed and was much more spacious. Our room had a mini fridge (one of the tall ones, not the tiny ones) and a microwave. It was relatively clean and the bed was very comfortable.

The AC units appear very old, and in general our room was COLD. Minor adjustments to the thermostat would either leave the room freezing or too hot with stagnant air.

The balcony in our room had an awesome view of the beach. The hotel also leads directly out to the beach, so no worrying about parking or driving. On the downside, this hotel is pretty far from the boardwalk.

Parking is free, which I highly appreciate, but you need a hang tag from the front desk. It sort of makes sense since there are probably a lot of people not staying in the hotel looking for free beach parking.

I also did not realize before the trip that this was a pet friendly hotel. Had they advertised that we probably would have brought our dog with us instead of leaving her with a sitter. I think there is a fee for bringing your pet but it's pretty reasonable.

Overall I don't think that the Wyndham would be my first choice for another stay, but I wouldn't rule it out either. It's nice but not nice enough for the room prices.
