Virginia Beach has undergone a metamorphosis over the past decade. Developers have almost completely afternoon-shaded the incredible Boardwalk with 20-story enormous hotels. In their midst is an smaller hotel that has it all, the Comfort Inn and Suites. They offer pretty much everything the big boys have but without the supersizing of the boxes. All the suites are oceanfront, all have great views, all are convenient to parking and all have good sized balconies. We never had to wait for an elevator, breakfast was plentiful and fine, and there are some great boardwalk-front restaurants in both directions when you head out the beachfront doors. The rates are very reasonable considering the location and the great service you get.

We'll be returning soon

My husband and I were scheduled to go to Mexico for our honeymoon...however in 2007, the passport offices were insane and my passport did not arrive. We improvised the day after the wedding and drove to Virginia Beach. We arrived and stopped at the Comfort Inn and booked a room. The room had a sitting area with a couch and TV and a separate bedroom. The view was AWESOME!!! We loved the breakfast in the morning, the close proximity to everything, the clean large tile floor in the room and everything else. It was a blast and we were lucky to happen upon such a cute hotel after the drama of our cancelled honeymoon!

Please note that the last review made on this excellent hotel
is completely out of touch with the reality of this very well managed
and operated facility. If you look down the statistics, you will find
Comfort Inn & Suites Oceanfront is rated a well-deserved 9th, out of 114
hotels in Virginia Beach....and Rated 5-Star by 30 of 68 reviewers.

The staff and management here are outstanding, friendly, eager
to be the best...and their work shows it.

Do not be influenced by the last review which was an undeserved "sour grapes"....
Look at all the 5-star reviews just preceding, and now mine,

This is my third winter at Comfort Inn & Suites Oceanfront....they are
well deserving of you business.

For Thanksgiving, we stayed at the comfort inn suites at Virginia Beach to visit family in the area. The first day they put us in room 501 which was very cold even with the heat on and very noisy with the heat on and off. The chairs in the living room were stained and the overall "suite" was disappointing in size and setup. As you open the door there's about two inches from the door to the wall and it makes it difficult to get luggage in and out while trying to hold the door open for the other person. The door is just feet from the bed, another downside for a suite.

At any rate, we asked to be switched to a different room the next morning which they did which was in the middle and on the 7th floor. It was quieter and warmer. However, the comforter had a stain on it so we had to call the front desk to have someone come up and change that. After returning from Thanksgiving dinner we were ready for bed, turned down the sheets and there were stains up by the pillows in the middle (thank goodness they were at the top - makes you want to pull the sheets ALL the way down on future hotel visits to make sure). So for a third time had to contact downstairs and have someone come up and change the sheets. Needless to say we didn't sleep well wondering what else hadn't been cleaned and if there were bed bugs lurking.

We were suppose to stay a third night but after what we had been through decided against it and stayed elsewhere. We talked with Christy about getting our room refunded but she said she did not have the authority to do that only the GM and he was out of town and had no way of getting ahold of him. She also told us that they fixed the problems so everything should be fine. We asked her point blank so we should be completely satisfied with our stay because you changed the sheets/comforter. She replied yes. I also pointed out to Christy that no one even apologized for the inconvenience. Of course after pointing that out she apologized.

After leaving our contact information I rec'd a cell message from Luis Perez who didn't leave his title or contact info. Called the general hotel number and asked for the GM and was told he was busy upstairs in the rooms. Called back an hour later and he had left for the day (how convenient). Asked Christy who Mr. Perez was and was told he was the Ops manager. I asked her if they had cell numbers that she could contact them. She informed me that the GM's cell was broken but would try to get ahold of someone. Received a return call from Mr. Perez who I explained the whole situation to and he said the same thing as Christy that we should be 100% completely satisfied with our stay because they changed the dirty sheets/comforter. Mr. Perez also informed me that he spoke to the individual who came to change the sheets and he didn't see any stains. I told Mr. Perez I was not making this up as he was implying. At any rate, Mr. Perez said they would not refund any of our money.

I have filed a complaint with Choice Hotels. If you want to stay in a real suite and have a clean room go for the Marriott. We usually stay with them and have never had a problem...we were just trying to save $. If this situation happened at a Marriott you bet they would comp the room without hesitation.

My family stayed here July 5th for 3 nights. Not a great weekend to not have reservations; however, we called the hotel from down the street and they said they did not have a room for the first night but they did for the next 2. We tried booking a different hotel for the first night and couldn't, so since we were so close, we just drove to the hotel and to our surprise they had a room for all 3 nights and the rate was cheaper than they quoted on the phone. I don't know if it was because all 4 of us walked in and look tired after driving all day, but we paid a little more for the 1st night and then the rate dropped for the next 2 nights. Be sure to ask if they can do better than the rate they quote and you might be surprised that they can take off a few more dollars.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel 20 years ago on our honeymoon and was surprised that the hotel was still is good shape for being on the beach. The employees were friendly and helpful. The breakfast is hot, the pool is inside, you are right on the boardwalk to people watch, and easy access to the beach. The parking for check-in was congested upon arrival but after the holiday weekend - it wasn't bad. There is a parking garage and it feels safe. There were a few items that needed repairing, but overall for the price and oceanfront it is a great hotel. There are several restaurants within walking distance and 2 minigolfs. It only takes a few minutes to get to site seeing in Norfolk or Cheasapeak Bay.

The oceanfront rooms are worth paying for - our kids thought it was great to sit on the balcony late at night and early in the morning. We would definately look up this hotel again on our next visit.
