“A must see in VA Beach”

It's natural beauty is breath taking. Back Bay Wildlife Refuge connects to False Cape State Park, where you can hike, bike, or do primitive camping. I would recommend this to anyone living or visiting VA Beach.

“Would have liked to take a "dip"”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Beautiful, unspoiled section of beach to walk on. Not permitted to swim and though it would have been nice, I understand it may destroy the ecosystem. Saw some hermit crabs and gulls nesting. warm sand, great ocean, not much else. Nice escape from people-filled Virginia Beach. Both are nice though, in their own ways.

“heaven on earth...”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

My husband and I just returned from Back Bay. I can honestly say I've never been to a more beautiful place.... if you're looking for pristine, private beaches, natural untouched dunes and you love exploring, then this should be your destination. According to the regulations, you are not supposed to swim on the beach here... nor are you supposed to sunbathe (so no chairs) ( we spoke to some of the park employees)... No dogs allowed either. But you can ride your bike along the beach. And there are nice restrooms in the work station (or visitors area building). This place will be in my dreams until I return again (not soon enough!!)

“Great off road ride almost to NC”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Great off road bike trail - very easy flat, loved it. Tough call only 1-2 miles of soft sand to get to North Carolina. Always difficult to turnaround & head home....
