The big attraction for this park was the beach. It's along the Chesapeake Bay so there are no waves. The beach is very nice and clean. The water was normal and a sandy bottom that gradually deepens.
Camping: This trip we used a tent. The sites are pine needle floored and the shallow roots of the trees are challenging. The size of the sites are nice. The bathhouses are clean and don't skimp with the water which is great. The area is patrolled frequently by the state.
The way we got our site was to reserve the loop but the site its self was to drive by and find one that wasn't already taken. I don't know if you can reserve a particular site. The signage is on the verge of confusing. We didn't use the camp store.

This spot is perfect. If heading OUT FOR A DAY AT THE BEACH please consider this awesome state park as the spot and dont just head for the oceanfront. The bay water was warm, light waves, beach is clean and the distance from the parking lot, to the beach is a jump away. The convenience store and restrooms are at the foot of the beach trail and the showers for all our needs. Pets are welcome (on a leash) in the park and in the water! Very family friendly place to spend the day even if you are not staying at one of the parks tent sites or cabins.

Never thought I would see this much spanish moss this far north. Excellent place for easy hikes. Great camping with all the facilities. Pleasant and affordable cabins.

If you want to watch the sunset while in VA Beach area, First Landing State Park beach is the place to see. Make sure to go before 7:30PM because the place gets crowded and it gets hard to find a parking space.

If you like camping and are looking for a good place to stay on a budget then you can't beat Virginia State Parks. First Landing is located just north of Fort Story and on the east coast of the Chesapeake Bay. Within in a few minutes you can be walking on the beach, swimming and watching the Atlantic Dolphins swimming by or watching the big ship that enter the bay. Take route 60 south and within 15 minutes you can be at Beach Street USA, Virginia Beach. You can always find free entertainment like street performer, Circus in the Park, fires works over the ocean and much more.
