“Charming B&B with beautiful grounds”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

We stayed one night at this charming B&B right in downtown Urbanna, in a good location -- close to restaurants and shops. The B&B is very nice -- great decor in the rooms, charming touches, soothing colors. We like the size of the room, the amenities in the bathroom, the nice breakfast (fruit course, homemade bread (!), a nice frittata, and juice and coffee. We particularly appreciated the coffee service available while we were getting ready for breakfast. The only downside to our stay was the fact that there were loud noises (thumping of little feet, and children's voices) from the room above us, beginning at 6 am. We found out that a family with two very small children were up there. But, being proprietors of an historic B&B ourselves, we understand the pros and cons of historic, old houses!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Atherston Hall B&B. The house and garden are impeccably maintained. Judith was a most pleasant host, and the breakfast was superb. We had a wonderful dinner at the Cafe Milo, which is a short walk from the B&B. Highly recommended.

Coming to Atherston was like slipping into a delicious cozy haze. From the beautiful sitting rooms, to the comfortable bedding to the sumptuous breakfasts, my husband and I felt cared for and beyond comfortable the whole weekend. And a lovely yellow lab we could pretend was our own to boot. Perfect

My husband and I recently stayed at Atherston Hall Bed and Breakfast and were so glad we did. We love the idea of B&Bs, but are so often disappointed. This time, from the minute we walked in the door we knew we had a winner.

Judith and Bill were warm and welcoming and knew just when to chat and when to leave us to our own devices. From the greeting with tea and cookies, to the strolls in the garden to the deeply comfortable beds and delicious sleep, the entire experience was perfect.

Lastly, the breakfast...in a word, awesome. Bill did most of the cooking (waffles with caramelized bananas? Whoa!), though Judith made the granola and I had to ask for the recipe. We could barely eat the rest of the day!

In short, this was a great place to stay. Neither fussy nor run down like many B&Bs we've tried, it was charming and relaxing. A great way to escape for a weekend.

This is the first B & B experience, as all out other travel was with 3 boys. It was a wonderful experience. We did not meet Judith, as she was out of town, Bill and Savannah were great hosts. We were even able to walk the town with Savannah, the most well behaved Lab I have ever met. Breakfasts were delicious. We went there to explore the area, and see if we wanted to buy property in the area.-2 months later we did.

All these glowing reviews are absolutely true! Bill and Savannah hosted me and my three sons at the beginning of a cycling tour around the Chesapeake. Though we didn't meet Judith, we saw her handiwork in the beaut y of the inn and her garden. Bill could not have been more gracious and the beds were oh, so comfortable. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Bill was a very thoughtful host.

Arrived for a girls weekend away to be welcomed by our hosts Bill, Judith, and Savannah, a friendly golden lab who plays frisbee. Snow began Friday evening and continued all day Saturday. The town of Urbanna was at a standstill but our hosts made us comfortable as we sat by the fire watching the snow fall, watching movies and eating freshly baked scones and tea. Breakfasts were amazing and since there was no place to eat out, they fed us a wonderful dinner. Bill even dug our cars out on Sunday so we could head back to the city. We will definitely go back to see the gardens in bloom. A perfect get away!
