Great service and delicious fresh food. Guacamole made fresh right at the table. Lunch was great, will go back.

This menu had lots of delicious-sounding options, and the food was great. Everything looked and tasted really fresh, and offered unique elements to the Mexican cuisine often offered in restaurants. Loved the fresh, warm tortilla chips!

We always get the carnitas and classic margaritas. The carnitas are a very generous portion of wonderfully tender and flavorful meat, with crispy outside areas. We get a second meal at home with "dogie bags". This time we tried the colossal margaritas, and that worked out very well, instead of getting two regular-size ones.

The celebrity chef reputation and the spare modern decor and upbeat music in a good Tysons Corner mall location promises more than it delivers in a location that is not in the chef's home city (NYC). Generally the food is not bad but not great. I felt the food was more assembled than created. There are certainly laudable attempts to modernize traditional Mexican food, but the execution falls short of even good traditional Mexican. The chicken fajitas as a lettuce wrap presents very nicely, but only tastes okay. The four tamale special is another great concept but not tasting fresh other than the good corn tamale (sweet like creamed corn without the sauce). The mole sauce for the mole tamale was Americanized with a slightly sweet flavor. The al pastor and chicken tacos were average with the best part the refried black beans. The most memorable part of the meal were my teen's strawberry lemonade and mango lemonade with strong fruit flavor, several chunks of fruit, and that subtle, soft fizz of a good Mexican soda. The tres leches dessert was a bit too firm as it should be silky and melt in your mouth. Service was efficient in a perpetual motion manner though if you had a question or comment, the service stopped to pay attention. The large dining room can easily handle various sizes of large groups plus a semi-private area. Prices were in line with the larger competition with a slight markup for the premium mall location.

I really wanted to like La Sandia because they have an annual tamale festival and I love tamales. But I couldn't finish my pork tamale; it was just too salty. The chips for the table also had palpable salt crystals on them and tasted very oily. Table-made guacamole was great, beer & sangria were great, and the plantain rice was out of this world. Service was also friendly and efficient. I can't imagine going back, though, because of the salt issue, given all the other great eatery choices in our area.
