“Nice place to stay”
Reviewed September 25, 2011

How many times can you say the same manager greats you for over 5 years? It's this continuity of staff that continues to make this hotel a great place to stay. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, nice shower. Like the breakfast, but they could use more seating on busy weekends. We've never used the pool, but it looks nice. We stay at this hotel whenever we are in the area.

Very nice new HIE. Just off I-81 in Troutville, but far enought off the Interstate no road noise. Rooms were large, clean and comfortable. My wife and I and the other couple we were traveling with thought the beds were on the hard side. But price was good and it included free wireless and nice free breakfast. They had cool automatic pancake maker. First we had seen one of those.

Room Tip: Ask if they have different beds in different rooms we were on the second floor end of the hall and t...

I have stayed here several times for business in the Roanoke area as have several colleagues. This place is GREAT! Hot breakfast, freshly remodeled, and the staff is great. Very convenient location with several restaurants very close. Highly recommend to everyone looking for a great value, whether on business or pleasure

We picked this hotel over the Comfort Inn (and a coupon for a future free night) because the reviews said the breakfast was great. Boy, were they mistaken.

First of all, the room was large enough for us and the beds were very comfortable. The sink was leaking but it didnt bother us. And we don't know how the Comfort Inn was as we didn't stay there. So we have nothing to compare the Holiday Inn to, but we just wanted to warn everyone not to pick this hotel based on the food recommendations.

Friday morning the breakfast was OK. Eggs with cheese, sausage - they were warm. The biscuits and cinnamon buns were not and there was no microwave. Some liked the gravy, some didn't. We ended up taking stuff to the room and heating it in the microwave.

Saturday morning the hotel was packed for a sports tournament. They should have planned for this and bought enough food, but they didn't. We were fighting over 4 cold egg circles (no cheese), six hard cold biscuits, and no meat. Again, no microwave to heat the food up. Everyone was just wandering around with empty plates. Someone from the team came in to the dining room and said they'd just eaten at Cracker Barrel. Half the people left to go across the street.

When you pay an extra $30-40 for a room with a breakfast, there should be enough food at breakfast to feed you. And it should be at least warm if it is advertised as a HOT breakfast.

Sunday had the same cold food as Saturday but there were fewer people so we didn't have to fight over it. We ended up just taking it to the room and warming it up and eating it there.

So, if you want a comfortable night of sleep, this is your place. If you want the hot breakfast they advertise, this is NOT your place.

Again, we didn't stay anywhere else, so we don't know what the other breakfasts were like. They could have been worse. But since this place got such good reviews for the food we just had to set the record straight.

My husband and I toured the northern half of the Blue Ridge Parkway and needed a hotel nearby. Based on Trip Advisor ratings, we chose the Holiday Inn Express Troutville-Roanoke North. This property is fairly new, nestled in a section with other basic hotels. The only close dining is a Cracker Barrel, but it is really close, literally just across the four lane highway.

We had no complaints, other than the guy riding the Ducati got the prime parking next to the lobby, despite our earlier arrival. The breakfast here was okay, a bit better than the HIE at Blowing Rock (avoid eating there, if possible) and the staff was efficient and friendly.

If you want to see Roanoke, this isn't the place to be, but if you just need a good night's sleep and quick access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, this HIE will meet your needs.

We had a pleasant stay at HIE-Troutville in 2010, so they were our first choice again this year. It was still a nice hotel. Breakfast is excellent and the cook is very pleasant. Quality is such that I will consider it again when in the area. :)
