While staying in Williamsburg my wife wanted to find this place she had read about in a wine magazine. So we took the trip to Topping not sure what we would find. What we found was an Oyster Bar on steroids. This place appealed to us immediately. Casual, unpretentious, with a view of the river that was awesome. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was great, we shared a dozen oysters (a mix of Salts, Sting Rays, and Rappahannocks), my wife had the lamb rib-lets and I the soft shelled crabs(the best I've had in a long time). Although we did not drink alcohol the list of micro brews looked appealing and the wine list was extensive. It was a hot day, but, with sitting under a tree and the breeze from the river.... all I can say is FANTASTIC. I highly recommend a journey to this unique establishment. Make no mistake this is a rustic oyster bar so if your looking for white linen and stuffy waiters/waitresses this ain't the place. Nuff said!

Tucked away and not well advertised but well worth a stop -- particularly on a nice day. We sat outside in the garden with the breeze keeping us cool. I will say this is your kind of place if you like oysters as they serve it several different ways. What I also liked about this place is that they serve small plates so you can sample several things and share.

No advertising, just word of mouth spreading like wildfire, has propelled this modest little waterfront place into local fame. Peter, the proprietor, says "don't tell anybody and don't come back," but everybody violates both demands. Indoors (limited space), on the porch, or on benches under the trees, the place has great beers, fabulous seafood, and joyful customers. It's a great scene. On Locklies Creek in Topping.

The food here is definitely deserving of a "Excellent" rating - the seating inside was a bit cramped so I gave it a "Very Good". The oyster sampler was amazing!! Four different kinds and served with 2 sauces - YUMMMMM! The lamb & clam stew is a really nice surprise - would have never put the two together, but this chef did and it really works. You have to try it. Sitting on the creek banks, the atmosphere is very casual and the staff is great. Definitely worth the detour off the main road. We have been there 3 times and just can't get enough oysters - we are promising ourselves that next time (and there will be a lot of "next times") we will try the shrimp & grits and crab cake - maybe a few oysters too. :)

Great food, but the oysters (Old Salts) are well worth the visit! Great wine and micro-brews make this intimate place a great destination. Outside dining is available as well as inside at the bar. Fabulous staff and the chef has quite the sense of humor. Service is spot-on. Highly recommend. We were there on a 100+ degree day, but the breeze coming off of the water and being under the shade of the umbrella, made it a perfect day to drink a cold one and nosh on oysters!!!!
