“Like Landing in Oyster City”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

A gang of us descended upon Lowery's on Saturday night and indulged in an orgy of really great seafood. Raw oysters started things off... and very nearly finished things, leaving us little room for the entres... But we manfully dined our way through some wonderful catfish and stuffed shrimp. Then back to the oysters... smoked this time. No room for dessert.

“Virginia Landmark - Solid Seafood Tradition”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012

Since childhood Lowery's has been one of the old "destination" restaurants like Nick's Yorktown, Virginia Diner Wakefield, Surrey House Surry CH, etc. It's solid, well-prepared seafood. The vegetables and sides, at one time falling short by comparison for a traditional southern restaurant, have now improved - making the food part of the experience well-rounded and more solidly southern. Atmosphere looks 1950s retro - which I enjoy. Captain's Grill in the back is enjoyable and a different experience - great in the evening. Enjoy this great Virginia tradition!
